How the Lord knocks at the door when He returns in the last days? How should we welcome the Lord’s return?

I repeatedly ponder these verses of scripture. I am thinking: The Lord stands at the door and knocks, how does He knock? In what way does He knock at the door? If the Lord descends upon clouds and all people can see Him, why does He still say “knock at the door”? The Lord Jesus also mentioned “My sheep hear my voice” and “what the Spirit saith unto the churches”. If we think descending upon clouds is the only way of the Lord’s return, how will these prophecies be fulfilled? Then how will the Lord return?
