The inconvenient truth of the Japanese Health Care System (1)Preface

Japan is in the midst of the third wave of the new coronavirus pandemic.
The central government declared a state of emergency for Tokyo and its surrounding prefectures about ten days ago.

After that, the governors of other prefectures requested the declaration from the central government one after another. And now, 11 prefectures are under the state of emergency as of January 19.

We are facing an imminent threat. The medical facilities treating patients with COVID-19 are almost on the brink of collapse.
TV and other media are featuring this crisis every day, and people become more worried.

However, Japan has the most beds per the population of 100,000 in the world. Besides, the number of infected people with coronavirus is lower than those in western countries. So, there seems to be no reason to cause the collapse of the health care system.

Contrary to such an assumption, the reality in medical facilities treating COVID-19 patients is very tragic.

Why this is happening, and what people are arguing, and what the media is reporting. These are the issues I will write about one by one from the next article.
