I wanted to share my thoughts on some of the more Japan-focused content I played during E3. I will try to simplify my word choice so Google Translate works better:

I played the new "Summer Lesson" demo on Morpheus. It was very different from the older SL demo - instead of a schoolgirl, the game featured a blond American woman who wanted me to teach her Japanese. That was weird for me, being an American who speaks no Japanese - the demo was definitely designed for Japanese players! The story was pretty corny (she said she could not go to a normal language class because she was working away from home, and did not want someone to recognize her and tell her boss) and the voice acting was pretty bad, but the overall experience was very interesting, and it had a funny surprise ending that I won't ruin for you. Even though the style was more anime than real life, it really felt like there was another person there with me, especially when she was bending over me looking for her guitar pick. If the avatar had been animated in real time by another person with voice chat like the Oculus Touch demo, I think it would have felt even more real.

I also played a Miku Concert demo on Morpheus. This was very similar to the unofficial MMD demos that have been going around, nothing too surprising. You start off sitting in the audience, but get transported onto the stage near the end of the song for a close and personal dance. The only interaction was waving the PS Move wand in time to the music, and it would vibrate when you waved it at the right rhythm. It was cool to see more official VR Miku content, but I think the community has already made better unofficial Miku content.

Oculus did not have any Japan-focused content at E3, but maybe in the future...
