モルディブ沖で発見されたバラ科のベラ。

Nature Briefingは2022年04月04日に、モルディブ沖でモルディブ人研究者によって発見されたバラ科のベラが、バラフエダイ(Cirrhilabrus finifenmaa)として初めて紹介されたと報告した。

モルディブ海洋研究所の生物学者であるアーメッド・ナジェブ(Ahmed Najeeb, a biologist at the Maldives Marine Research Institute, in Malé)は、「モルディブの固有種であっても、地元の科学者があまり関与しないまま、モルディブで発見された種を記述するのはいつも外国の科学者でした。」「今回はいつもと違う、初めてのことに参加できて、本当にエキサイティングです。」と話している。

「フィニフェンマ(finifenmaa)」はバラを意味し、この魚のピンク色とモルディブの国花にちなんで名づけられた。

さすがモルディブ。派手な魚。
