Whatever floats your boat

Genesis chapter 6 & 7

People are usually somewhat familiar with Noah's story and the flood. They build a boat take two of every animal aboard and food for the journey. For some people it is a kids Sunday school story, you know, with cute animals and a rainbow. Subtle nuance of the story sometimes gets glossed over or missed altogether. First, who was Noah? He was the Great grandson of Enoch, so what information might he have known from his Great grandfather. We know that through Noah's descendants, God will send the Messiah Noah and his wife had three sons and at this point in the story they are grown men each with his own wife. In Chapter six verse nine it says of Noah that he was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked With God The “perfect” part is remarkably interesting for several reasons. First, no Noah was not without his flaws, the word translates he was without blemish, without spot, complete, undefiled. That is the first one to remember, next it does not mention this “perfect” of his wife, his sons, or their wives. Keep this in mind, we will Revisit this again after we get off the boat. Next the ark is finished they load the animals that God sends to them to be saved. Here is a small but meaningful part that gets missed they were given clean animals, seven pairs, male and female For the clean animals, the extra numbers will prove beneficial once they get off the boat. Noah was 600 years., Not just two. Next of every unclean animal a pair male and female, of the birds of the air seven pair of every kind . that will become interesting further on, just remember when things look odd, like why the exact day is mentioned, There is usually a reason. In verse eleven of chapter seven all the water did not just come from the sky, although it did rain forty days and forty nights, but it also says the fountains of the great deep were broken up. How did that happen? Dunno, Meteor, earthquake, major tectonic split? It does not tell us. To recap we have Noah and his wife, Shem and Ham and Japheth and their wives, eight people. Animals, birds, and things that creep on the earth Verse sixteen says and the Lord closed the door once they were all in. If you get nothing else out of this reading remember this, if you belong to God's family, he shuts you in and no storm or flood will hurt you. The ride may make you seasick, it might not be the most comfortable trip, it could be smelly and wet, but God will see you through the storm. Last point of interest eight people would pass through the waters and were saved, later on a people who were not yet a nation, in the reading would pass through the red sea and they were saved, in both incidents it was not the water that saved it was God. In the last example, from Acts chapter two, Peter tells the people listening “that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord (Jesus) will be saved”… those that did were baptized (they passed through the water) It is God who saves, but everyone who believes passes through the water, it is part of the journey.
