WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE CHOOSING PERFORATED SHEET

The perforated sheet is used as a screen in partitions, walkways, sunscreens, ventilation, and decorative cladding. They are made by processing or drilling holes in a sheet of metal or plastic. They are often stronger or stiffer than other mesh products due to their strong sheet structure. Wire mesh is an alternative to perforated sheet metal, but it is generally lightweight, flexible, and less durable than other perforated and foamed sheet metal.

The selection of decorative perforated sheet metal requires the customer to identify the physical specifications of the sheet and the materials needed for fabrication. This selection guide is designed to help clients with this process.

Physical specifications of perforated sheets

The holes' size, the total width, and the pattern are the essential characteristics of the perforated sheets.

The hole size is the diameter of each hole made in the perforated sheet. For rectangular openings, select the smallest opening width value (the shortest side of the rectangular opening); choose the opening's length (the longest side of the rectangular opening) as the maximum value.

Hole Pattern: A pattern is the way holes or punched shapes are arranged on a sheet. In flat samples, the holes are aligned horizontally and vertically. In a staggered design, the holes are also evenly spaced between the lines. Holes are made in many configurations, including round, square, or hexagonal shapes. However, some people prefer to use the patterned sheet metal to decorate alongside serving its purposes.

The choice of the perforated sheet is also important depending on the materials used in its manufacture. The choice of material determines the sheet's strength, resistance to chemicals, corrosion, and hardness. Materials used to make sheet metal include metals and plastics.

Metals and their alloys tend to be healthy and durable materials. Strength is an essential quality of sheets due to its everyday use in heavy industrial applications for separation or protection. The most common types of metals used to make perforated plates are steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Steel is used for strength, stainless steel for corrosion resistance, and aluminum for lower density.

However, there are two classifications of thermoplastic plastics and thermoset polymers. Thermoplastics do not undergo chemical changes when heated and can be reshaped. Thermosets remain solid after initial training. Plastic is not as standard as sheet metal due to its usually lower strength. However, compared to metals, they can offer low cost, corrosion resistance, low friction, and flexibility

Perforated sheets are used in many applications, from heavy industry to decoration. Perforated sheets are used as filters, screens, and protectors in industrial applications or as screens and panels in architectural applications.

Applications of perforated sheets

Certain types of decorative perforated sheets metal are particularly suitable for specific applications. Perforated aluminum sheets are versatile due to their lightweight construction and are used as diffusers in light fixtures and even in kitchen utensils. Perforated aluminum sheets corrosion-resistant, anti-magnetic, and anti-static, making it useful in cleanrooms or laboratories.
