「起きる」と「起こる」

"起きる" is used when describing the act of waking up or rising, typically in relation to a person or something that can move on its own, while "起こる" is used to describe events or incidents that occur. The choice between the two verbs depends on the context and the nature of the action you are describing.

In reality, "事故が起きる" (jiko ga okiru) and "事故が起こる" (jiko ga okoru) have nearly the same meaning, and in everyday Japanese conversations or writing, you can use either one without a problem.
