About Our Republic / 我々の共和国について

　We are a nomadic republic living in the study of the ancient Maquis and the worship and rituals of CatFishBird.
　我々は、古代マキ人の研究、ならびに猫魚鳥への信仰と祭祀を執行しながら暮らす遊牧共和国です。

　Our country is a self-sufficient society made up of many small isles, and for thousands of years until the end of the 19th century, we lived with very little interaction with other peoples.　
　我が国は多くの小島からなる自給自足社会で、19世紀の末までの数千年間、他民族との交流がほとんどない暮らしをしていました。

　Dr. Mashiro, a Japanese researcher who came to the country at that time, discovered that the characteristics of our culture, such as the complete absence of weapons, were very similar to those of the Maquis People who are believed to have lived in Japan in the past, and for a time it was pointed out and hoped that we might be the only surviving Maquis in the world.   It was then that the Maquis Institute was founded.
　当時来島した日本人研究者のマシロ博士が、武器を全く使わないこと等、我々の文化の特徴が、かつて日本に住んでいたとされるマキ族と非常に似ていることを発見し、一時期は、世界で唯一残存しているマキ人ではないかと指摘され期待を集めました。マキの研究所が設立されたのもその時です。

　According to Dr. Mashiro's theory, there is no other example of a people who do not use weapons, not only in war, but also in hunting, i.e., even against animals, that can be found in the present human race, besides us.
　Though in our case, in the first place, we don't fight wars itself, and we don't hunt itself, either.
　マシロ博士の説によると、戦争時だけでなく狩猟時においても、すなわち動物に対してさえも武器を使わない民族は、現生人類においては我々以外に例が見られないということです。
　もっとも、我々の場合はそもそも戦争自体をしないし、狩猟自体もしないのですが。

　The only weapons we used to have were some pistols, rifles, and cannons we imported during the same period. And because we had no use for them, they soon rusted and became unusable.
　In contrast, musical instruments quickly spread to all the isles, and since there were not enough of them, rifle barrels were converted into flutes one by one, and rusty cannons were cut up and turned into drums. Some of them are still in use today.
　かつて我々が所有していた武器といえば、その時代に輸入したわずかなピストル、ライフル、大砲だけでした。記録によれば全部で100丁ほどです。しかも、使い途がないため、すぐに錆びて使えなくなりました。
　対照的に、楽器はすぐに全ての島々に広まりました。数が足りなかったため、ライフルの銃身を次々と笛に改造し、錆びた大砲は切り分けて太鼓に作り変えました。今でも使われている物もあります。

　However, be that as it may...
　しかし、それはともかくとして･･･

　In this way, our country was “discovered” by the world and suddenly appeared in the world history, but soon, the two world wars brought visits from the outside world to almost a halt again. And after the war, each country was busy dealing with the Cold War, and Japan, which was leading the research, was especially busy rebuilding the nation after its defeat, as a result, we was again in a state of almost no interaction with the outside world for almost a century.   
　そのようにして、世界から「発見され」、突然世界史に登場した我が国でしたが、しかし、すぐに二度の世界大戦により、再び外部世界からの訪問がほとんど停止しました。そして戦後もそれぞれの国々は冷戦への対応に追われ、特にそれまで研究をリードしていた日本は、敗戦後の国家再建で手一杯になったため、結果として、再び我々はほぼ一世紀近くにわたり外部世界との交流を持たない状態に戻りました。

　After that, in the 2000s, the discovery of Dr. Mashiro's last manuscript led some researchers in Japan to start paying attention to us again.
　その後、西暦2000年代に入り、マシロ博士の遺稿が発見されたことをきっかけに、日本の一部の研究者が再び我々に注目するようになりました。

　Then along with restarting of the exchange of people and goods though it is very little, in this post-Cold War era, we have made it our national policy to call upon all people of the world to replace all weapons with musical instruments and pens.
　そして、ごく少量ではありますが、人と物の交流が再開されたことを受けて、我々は冷戦後のこの時代に、世界のすべての人々に、すべての武器を楽器とペンに置き換えることを国策として呼びかけることにしました。

　We call on all in the world ー
　我々は世界中のすべての人々に呼びかけます───

　　REPLACE ALL WEAPON by MUSICAL INSTRUMENTs and PENs.
　　　すべての武器を、楽器とペンに持ち替えよう。
