Willows don't mind bending.
That's why they don't clash with others.
柳は 一直線に 急がない。
柳は 曲がることを 厭わない。
だから 他者と ぶつからない。
Youth is impatient.
Youth is stubborn.
That's why it bumps here and there.
若さは 急っかちだ。
若さは 頑なだ。
だから あちこちに ぶつかる。
Instead,
youth is pure.
So,
even its failure
is crystal clear.
その代わり
若さは 純粋だ。
だから
失敗や 過ちさえ
明らかで 透き通っている。
Like tears.
涙のように。

Down by the salley gardens my love and I did meet;

サリーの庭のそばで あの人と 僕は 出会った
She passed the salley gardens with little snow-white feet.
Ba luath a cos ar féar ann is ba luaineach a leagan siúil
サリーの庭を 彼女は 通り過ぎて行った 雪のように白い足だった。
She bid me, take love easy
Sé dúirt sí liom bheith suaimhneach
彼女は 僕に言った 「恋はゆったり 気負わずに
as the leaves grow on the tree;
mar a fhásann duilliúr is bláth
この樹の葉々が 伸びてゆくみたいにね」 と
But I, being young and foolish,
Ach bhí mise óg is uaibhreach
でも僕は 若くて 愚かだった

[*] 英語原文の最後の２行は、過去と現在の私を対比させた対句ですが、「Now I am full of tears」の「full」は前の行の「foolish」と韻を踏んでいるため、聞き手は一瞬「Now I am 'fool'...」と聞き取りかけた後で、「'full' of tears」と解釈し直すことになります。 このダブル・ミーニングのような効果は、聞き手の注意を引きつけ、印象的に曲を締めくくる優れた効果を生み出しています。 和歌(＝短歌)の掛詞に通じるものがあると言えるでしょう。 ただし残念なことに、私の翻訳にそれを反映させることは出来ませんでした。
（The last two lines of the English original are a couplet contrasting past and present me, in which the word "full" in "Now I am full of tears" rhymes with "foolish" in the previous verse, so the listener momentarily hears "Now I am 'fool'..." and then, hears "full of tears" rightly. This double-meaning like effect is excellent in attracting the listener's attention and then ending the song in a striking manner. It is similar to the kake-kotoba in Japanese waka(＝tanka) poetry, I'm sure. However, unfortunately, I was not able to reflect this in my translation.）
