RTA is Real Time Attack.
It means speedrunning in Japan.
Nagoya is the city name in Aichi prefecture which is center of Japan between Tokyo and Osaka.
Short self-introduction
This report was written by bombomb as this article author.
Hii!! I wrote this report as my speedrun activity records.
My short self-introduction is shown
below because I'm beginner as speedrunner.
①I started speedrun in January 2022. And when I participated in Nagoya RTA,
the period of speedrun experience was 5 months.
②The first game I started playing as speedrun was Custom Robo released in
GCN.
③I hadn't used Discord, Twitch, or OBS until I started speedrun.
④I had no experience with live-streaming.
⑤When I was in elementary school, I used to play video games a lot.
⑥I didn't usually play games and often go outdoor.
⑦I didn't usually play a lot of games, so when the game
I really wanted to play was released,
I bought the hardware for one software, and
when I finished playing it, I put the game machine in the closet.
Let's go to the participation report of the main subject.
Applying
Before talking about the application, I would like to introduce conditions
before applying.
Before my applying
My first speedrun video was submitted to SpeedRun.com on January 21, 2022.
The first thing I did start speedrun was to pull out the GCN that was sleeping
in the closet when I returned mother's home at the end of the year.
At the end of 2021 when I decided to do speerdun, I had only PCs and game
consoles. So In 2022, when the new year began, I started purchasing capture boards and how to use OBS, and how to live-streaming.
Thanks to many people who have summarized the
live-streaming method's on Youtube in an easy to understand contents,
it has become possible to easily
live-streaming it in about 1~2 weeks.
At first, I was thinking about submitting videos to SpeedRun.com rather than
focusing on live-streaming,
so I made a screen recording and submitted a playing video.
Reader may be wondering, "You don't usually play games, but you will be able to run as whole speedrun in about two weeks !?"
There are three reasons.
①I used to play this game a lot when I was child.
②There are no difficult glitches this game.
③In Any%, which is the most major category, player can also run in a
straightforward method without using glitches techniques.
So even if you haven't played Custom Robo, if you memorize the chart after a few laps, you will be able to run as speedrun immediately.
My applying
Since I started speedrun, I had a desire to participate in offline events, so I
started looking at event which were took place in offline.
I think it was the end of January 2022 when I started investigating.
Recently, events were rarely held offline due to an epidemic illness, and even RTA in Japan, the largest speedrun event in Japan, was held online at the end of 2021.
Meanwhile, I happened to discover Nagoya RTA Off, and this event was
planned as offline!
I immediately followed Nagoya RTA's Twitter and confirmed the application
requirements.
Then the application had already started.
At first, I thought, "Is it okay for beginner to participate in an offline event?".
Looking at the profile section of Nagoya RTA Off's Twitter, there was a
description that "We are holding an RTA event in Nagoya where everyone can easily participate!"
I decided to apply because I thought, "Oh, I'm sure it's okay for beginners to
apply."
Well, I was still worried, so when I asked the organizer of if it was possible to
apply for a beginner on the Discord server, he was willing to accept it, so I was able to apply with confidence.
The deadline for applying was February 15, so I decided on a reference video and EST to submit based on the best records so far.
My personal best at the time of application was 2:07:45, Since it was my first
time to participate in the event and probably accident was happen,
I submitted 2:30:00 as estimated play time.
Here is reference video when I submitted.

My personal best included all win without losing, but at that time I often lost
even if I ran, so I think that it was an overwhelming EST considering my
equipment trouble and the defeat during run.
The organizer also answered that if you are worried, you can submitted EST
with plenty of time, so I thought Nagoya RTA is kind to speedrun beginners
and is God!
The timing of this application was about one month of my speedrun
experience.
The day of acceptances announcement
The acceptance was announced on the Twitch channel of Nagoya RTA around February 20.
To be honest, HIST, who streamed 【Radio that understands all of Nagoya
RTA Meeting 】that was distributed weekly on the Twitch channel said, "We can definitely
adopt one game per person in terms of the period of the event time and the number of runner applications."
So I thought it would be adopted, I listened the radio that announced the
result with confirmation.
The result is "accepted".
From acceptance to the event day
The term from acceptance day to the event day was about 3 months.
Instead of practicing Custom Robo for the event in the first attempts, I played the normal play of Custom Robo V2, which is the previous title of the
Custom Robo in Japan.
The main reason I started playing V2 is to introduce and comment in the run.
V2 is the most popular and famous game title in the Custom Robo series in
Japan, and I thought that if I could talk about the V2 contents when I run at
the event, I could provide a familiar topic to those who are watching stream
of event.
Also I wanted to play purely because I hadn't played it yet.
I finished playing New-Journey and Grand-battle in normal play, after grasping the characters and the story, I did
speedrun of V2 about 3 times.
After returning to the main game "Custom Robo" in early March, I also
proceeded with the summary of the comment and introduction in parallel
with the speedrun through practice & section practice.
Have an accident
The GCN I usually used occur in loading disc errors while I play speed-running. I thought this accidents is no good, so I hurriedly bought the Wii at a nearby used-game-shop.
I'm glad this accidents didn't happen at the event.
The reason for choosing Wii is
①It was cheaper than buying a good condition of GC.
②The latest model of Wii (black or red) seems to better from the point of
loading performance.
③The resolution will be a little better.
Because I thoght that.
Impressions of playing Wii
As for the impression that I changed from GC to Wii, the resolution's quality is a little better for Wii even if it is a composite cable of the same 3 colors.
In Custom Robo, cubes are shot from the canopod at the start of the
battle, and when the cube count reaches 0 after shoot, player can get up as a robot.
If this rise is faster than the CPU, player can take the initiative with an attack,
and in speedrun, whether or not player can take the initiative greatly affects
the time.
This count can be accelerated by repeatedly firing the button, and it can be
adjusted even before the injection from the canopod, but it is very difficult to see the count.
In the case of Wii, player can confirm easly!
Probably if you are playing on a GC, you can output it to a CRT TV and it will
be easier to see without changing the hardware.
I think that this difference in hardware affected my speedrun time.
The commentator has been assigned
After that, ika-hiziki will undertake the commentator,
and after April, We talked on Discord and had a meeting about the content
to introduction in order to communicate about once a week.
The main purpose of the meeting is to deepen the communication between
runnner and commentator.
This meeting was proposal by ika-hiziki, and I can say it now
that the speedrun event is over, it was a very effective proposal.
My speedrun time before the event
My speedrun record was also steadily updated, and the time within 2:05:00
was stabled.
According to the SpeedRun.com record at that time, the number one in the
world was 1:59:20 and the number two was 2:05:49.
Because of that, I was able to feel that it was the result of the section practice and set a stable and good time.
Nagoya RTA Day 1 (My running day), May 5
Day 1 view taking place venue
Because I was the first to participate in the RTA event, I had a desire to enter
the venue and enjoy the atmosphere at the start of the event when the first
run of the event, "Xi Jumbo", started.
Result is little late.
I was checking the streaming on Twitch while I was on the move to venue, and I knew that the start time was delayed, but I entered the venue about 10 minutes after the start of the first run.
Disappointed.
Join the commentator
After watching "Xi Jumbo", watch halfway through the second run
"GOOD JOB!" And once go from the 4th floor to the 5th floor, which is the
main floor.
The 5th floor was opened as waiting room for runners, commentators, and
volunteers.
There, I met ika-hiziki and had the first meeting.
After meeting, we headed to the underground shopping mall at Nagoya
Station for lunch.
Since it was a long holiday in Japan, there were many people who line up
with travel luggage, so we searched for a vacant store to eat lunch.
After lunch, I returned to the venue and watch "Puzzle Bobble".
After that, it was time to check in at the hotel, and I wanted to leave my
luggage and take a rest until my running turn so I headed to the hotel.
I wish I could take a nap at the hotel, but I couldn't sleep because I was watching the stream of Nagoya RTA using smartphone on Twitch and my tension
was rising.
Practice before my turn
Easily finish an early dinner at Sukiya which is Japanese restaurant and enter
the venue again in the middle of "The Menkyo Shutoku Simulation-".
Next is my turn, so I practiced in the waiting room on the 5th floor.
What I mainly did during the practice time was to check the input delay of the CRT TV, check the image quality, and check the save data of the memory
card prepared for the backup data.
I usually play on the LCD display, but since I was able to select a CRT TV in the application, I specified a CRT because I wanted to use it.
It's really exciting to try the equipment for the first time at the event.
The impression of using CRT TV was that the input delay was about the same as the environment I was playing all the time.
However, there were some parts where the screen was too bright and it was
difficult to see the count when the canopod was shot.
But it was a very good experience.
My speedrun at the event
Here is the archived video that I ran at the event.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/LbuaQei3u5U?rel=0
As an enthusiasm for my run, I was conscious of trying to have fun anyway.
I thought that there were many mistakes in the actual play.
Since I commented at the stage, I forgot the route and made a mistake about twice on the way to the next area.
There were parts of the battle that I was about to lose, so I was playing while
chilling.
Before going to my turn, I assumed that if there was a possibility of losing,
second rahu-1st , the twins 2on2 battle before Last Boss, the Last Boss Rahu-3rd, or any of the 2on2 battles.
But I was able to come to the front of Last Boss without losing, so I remember being relieved once after finishing the sister battle.
And the Rast boss battle that we met.
It was a fierce battle.
I thought I would really lose.
I have only 2 HP!?
In the practice up to the event, I was able to keep the winning ratio of 80% by practicing the Rast boss game, but I was quite worried that I might lose the
actual performance because I had been losing in the practice the day before
the event.
As a result, I was able to win in the event, and it was really good to be able to pass without losing in one event.
From the time I was playing, I thought that I wouldn't be able to get that fast because of various mistakes.
The result is 2:02:26.
It was a very fast time for a one-shot game.
Also, I was happy that I had a very good time with ika-hiziki for 2 hours.
The timer stopped much earlier than the planned EST, and I had some time
left, so I explained the other categories while playing.
The category is NG-Bad Ending,
but the story is pretty messed up, so it was good to be able to
get the laughter of the people at the venue.
After the performance, I returned to the hotel.
Nagoya RTA Day 2, May 6
Anpanman gummy opening RTA
The second day was mainly watch.
Before entering the venue, I ate "kishimen" in the underground shopping mall at Nagoya Station for lunch a little earlier.
"Kishimen" is noodle that is famous and traditional foods in Nogaya.
After lunch, I entered the venue in the middle of
Tonkotsu's Mario & Luigi: Dream Team", and after that, I experienced the
Anpanman Gummy Opening speedrun at the spectator's seat.
Anpanman gummy's runner provided gummy for the number of people
so that the viewers could also experience them.
We prepared hand disinfection, disposable containers, packs to take-out, etc., and took thorough infection control measures.
I thought gummy's runner maked people of spectator enjoy.
As for the atmosphere of the venue, the visitors were happily waiting for the
speedrun to start.
After disinfecting my hands, it was supposed that we shouldn't touch my
smartphone to prevent infection, so we got the impression that many people
lamented that they wanted to check Twitter as soon as possible when they
reached the top of the Twitter trend.
Well, when Anpanman Gummy enters the trend, I'm surprised and want to
check it.
The waiting time to start was longer than planned.
It seems that the staff were having a hard time adjusting the equipment
because they were delivering real images that were different from the past
run.
Still, it is very impressive that the viewers waited warmly without disturbing
the atmosphere.
And start opening
I opened Anpanman Gummy for the first time, but the
oblate-film was very difficult to peel off.
To be honest, I opened it so I couldn't afford to see the run of the runners. lol
I think that this speedrun is one that showed great excitement as Nagoya RTA both at the venue and streaming.
There was still the third day, but due to my own schedule, I left Nagoya RTA
and my participation in the first speedrun event has come to an end.
Conclusion
Participation in the first speedrun event for me was a good run and I enjoyed
it very much.
The event itself has an atmosphere that anyone can participate in, and the
organizer answered questions in kind, so I was able to attend to the event
without any anxiety.
It was an event that made me feel good about my first participation at
Nagoya RTA.
If you want to hold it offline, I would like to apply.
Once again, I would like to thank the organizers, volunteer staff, runners,
commentators, and overseas runners who responded to the my Custom Robo questionnaire before the event.
I had a very good time.
Next task
The only regrettable point is the costume of the day.
There was a character called "Shinichi" that appeared in Custom Robo 1st-N64 and Custom Robo V2, and I changed my clothes just before wearing
clothes that imaged that character.
When I checked my clothes in the archive again, I regret that I had cosplayed halfway and it looked like a crappy plain clothes.
I will be careful next time I go to an offline event. lol
