My most memorable Christmas

My most memorable Christmas is the one that I spent in the United States.

When I was fourteen, a junior high student, my English teacher invited me to visit his hometown and stay there for a week during the Christmas holidays. It was my second time traveling to the U.S.. However, I had never traveled abroad without my parents, so it was a whole new adventure for me.

His hometown is a small town in Washington State. Since it is Northwest, the weather was freezing. There was no sightseeing location except for the supermarket. I was surprised by the size of the supermarket because it was literally “Super”. I went there almost everyday to buy some candies, sodas, stationeries, and so on.

There were so many things that made me excited during the trip, but what impressed me the most was the real American meals. Every morning, I enjoyed pancakes (or waffles), sausages, fried eggs, and fresh orange juice. On Christmas Eve, I had a lamb steak, mashed potatoes, and a raspberry tart for dessert. Since then, those dishes have become my favorite all the time.

In the future, if I have a chance to spend Christmas outside Japan again, I will definitely choose Christmas in the U.S.
