Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following the shooting at the Molson Coors Campus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that killed at least 6 innocent people:
“The hearts of all Americans break for the victims of today’s deadly act of gun violence in Milwaukee, and our thoughts are with all those impacted by this horrific tragedy. As we continue to await further information, we offer our deepest gratitude to the heroic first responders who are working tirelessly to ensure that everyone receives the care and support they need.
“The epidemic of gun violence is tearing families and communities apart across America. One year ago, the House passed H.R. 8 and H.R. 112, commonsense, bipartisan legislation to ensure universal background checks and close the dangerous loophole that enabled the hate crime in Charleston, South Carolina. Yet, nearly 365 days later, the American people are still waiting for Leader McConnell to bring these lifesaving bills up for a Senate vote. Every day that he refuses to act, 100 Americans are killed by gun violence.
“The American people are tired of Leader McConnell’s deadly obstruction. House Democrats will continue to join them to advance a drumbeat of action across the country until McConnell takes up these critical bills and we end the gun violence epidemic once and for all.”
