Chilling out, Chirping out

急に初夏に突入したロンドン。日中20度を超える日の午後に思い立ち、公園にバードウォッチングに行きました。

ロンドンの花模様は毎年ちょっとづつ違うのですが、今年のリージェントパークはデイジーがいっぱい。絨毯のようなその上で、カモが日向ぼっこしてました。

ハイイロガンの夫婦は、子連れで餌をつついていました。

水辺に行くと、カナディアングースも赤ちゃんたちを見せてくれました。

　

白鳥は抱卵中。こんなふうに巣にじっと座っている姿が見えるのは今だけです。

水辺の資材置場に営巣してる大胆な白鳥もいました。すぐ側を人や犬が通っても、絶対入ってこられないと知っているのてす。

カルガモは子沢山。ピンポン玉のように跳ね回るちっちゃなヒナが18羽もいました。やばい。かわいい。やばい。

ロンドンの野鳥たちはみんなに大事にされているので、人を怖がりません。

基本的に寒いし、物価はいよいよ高いし、新鮮な魚はなかなか食べられないけど、豊かな自然が近くにあって野鳥たちの営みに親しめるこの街が、わたしは大好きです。

London takes the first step towards early summer. On a cosy, hot afternoon with over 20 degrees, I decided to go birdwatching.

London's floral patterns change slightly every year. This week, I saw a big daisy carpet in Regent's Park. A Duck was sitting on it like a princess.

A picturesque scene unfolded before me as I observed greylag geese pecking at the ground, their goslings in tow. The rhythmic tapping of their beaks on the earth was a soothing melody.

The Canadian geese proudly showcased their little ones by the water's edge.

Swans are nesting at this moment. In the other seasons, you will not see them sitting quietly on their nests like this.

A daredevil swan nests in a storage area by the water, undisturbed by passersby—humans or dogs—confident in its safety.

The mallards were prolific, with as many as eighteen tiny ducklings bouncing around like little ping-pong balls. Too adorable.

Everyone so cherishes the wild birds of London that they have no fear of humans.

Despite the city's chilly climate, the ever-increasing cost of living, and the scarcity of fresh fish, my love for London remains unwavering. Its abundant nature and the wildlings next door are the city's true treasures.
