【怪談】雪女

ひとりの旅の僧侶が吹雪ふぶきの山を歩いていた。

昼なお暗く、天狗てんぐや山姥やまんばが棲むという。
冬ならば、雪女が袖そでを引くという。

「お待ちなされ。そこなお坊様」
背中を凍らせるような冷たい声がした。

振り返ると、白装束しろしょうぞくの女の姿があった。
その美しさに僧侶は身動きできなくなった。

「お山へ、なんの用かえ」
女の吐いた白い息で、僧侶の足は凍りついた。

「私は、雪女に会いに来たのです」
「おやおや。なんでまた会いたいと」

女の白い手が触れ、僧侶の腕と肩は凍った。
「わたくしの、母上だからです」

女は吹雪のような白い息を吐いた。
その瞬間、僧侶は気を失った。

吹雪は止み、澄んだ月夜であった。
まわりの雪がとけ、僧侶は土の上にいた。

僧侶は生きていた。
雪女の姿はなかった。

僧侶の腹の上に、濡れた白装束があるばかり。

「やっと会えたというのに」

梢こずえの雪を落とし、風が吹き抜けていった。

Snow Woman

A traveling monk was walking
on a snowstorm mountain.

It is dark in the daytime
and it is said that tengu and yamanba live there.

In winter,
the snow woman pulls the sleeves of people.

"Wait, monk there."
There was a cold voice that frozen his back.

He looked back
and saw a woman in white costume.

The beauty prevented the monk from moving.

"What are you going to the mountain?"
The monk's feet froze with her white breath.

"I came to see the snow woman."
"Oh, why do you want to meet?"

The woman's white hand was touched,
and the monk's arms and shoulders were frozen.

"Because she is my mother."

The woman exhaled a white breath of snow.
At that moment, the monk fainted.

The snowstorm stopped
and it was a clear moonlit night.

The surrounding snow melted,
and the monk was on the soil.

The monks were alive.
There was no figure of a snow woman.

There is just a wet white costume
on the belly of a monk.

"I finally met you."

The snow fell on the treetops
and the wind blew through.
