【怪談】引きずる

私には見えるのです。

あなた方が、その背後に、足枷あしかせのように　
ずるずるずるずる引きずるものを。

たとえば、ほら。

あそこを歩いてらっしゃる　
あの顔色の悪い猫背の男の人。

あの人は、なんというか　
なんだかとても古びた箪笥たんすのようなものを　
ずるずるずるずる引きずっています。

そのいかにも重そうな古箪笥から二つ三つ　
だらしなく引き出しが突き出ているのですけど　
その一つの引き出しからは････　
あれは、老婆の腕でしょうか。

そのように見える細い皺しわくちゃの腕が一本　
いやらしく外に食はみ出ています。

ああ、そして　
その腕の先にある数本の指が　
虫の腹にある脚のように　
もぞもぞもぞもぞ蠢うごめいています。

それから、あの若い女の人。

あの人、汚れた雑巾ぞうきんのようなものを　
ずるずるずるずる引きずっていますね。

ああいうのは、私　
よく見かけるので知っているんですけど　
あれは胎盤たいばんとか、羊膜ようまくに包まれた胎児とか　
とにかくそういう類たぐいのものです。

ええ、そうです。

見なければよかったと思うようなものが　
ほとんどです。

あなた方は、そういうふうに
そういうものを大小様々さまざま　
いくつもいくつも引きずっているのです。

少なくとも私には、そう見えます。

ただ、それらは、目に見えないだけであって　
おぼろげながら本人には　
なにかそのようなものの重みというのか　
引きずる感触のようなものの自覚があるはずです。

ですから私は、本人に向かって　
引きずってらっしゃるものがどのようなものであるか　
わざわざ教えてやるような差し出がましいことは　
まず致いたしません。

致しませんが　
どうしても実際に見えてしまうものですから　
どうにも堪たまらないものがあります。

しかも、近頃では　
引きずる音まで聞こえてくるのです。

ええ、そうです。
あの音です。
