【SS】石段の途中

恐ろしく長い石段だった。

その石段を俺は上っている。
どこまで続くのか、上は霞んで見えない。

足が疲れたので、途中で休むことにした。

石段に腰かけ、ぼんやり見下ろす。
どこから続くのか、下も霞んで見えない。

やがて下の霞の中から片腕の男が現れた。

さっき追い越したばかりの男だった。
黙ったまま俺の横を通り抜ける。

無愛想で目付きの悪い男だ。

（なぜ奴は石段を上るのだろう）
なんとなく考えてしまった。

（なぜ俺も石段を上るのだろう）
休んでいるのに胸がドキドキしてきた。

（いつから俺は上っているのだろう）

思い出せない。
記憶も霞んでいた。

上っても下っても
なんだか同じような気がしてきた。

休んでいても同じかもしれない。

しばらくして立ち上がった。
一段一段、俺は石段を下り始めた。

下るのは上るより楽だった。
しかし、どこまでも石段は続いていた。

（この石段はなんなのだろう）
よく似ているような気がした。

この石段も、その次の石段も、
その前の石段にしたって････　

こちらへ石段を上ってくる者がいる。
あの目付きの悪い片腕の男だった。
　

In the Middle of Stone Steps

It was a terribly long stone step.

I'm up the stone steps.
I can't see how far it lasts because it is hazy.

My legs got tired,
so I decided to take a rest on the way.

I sit on the stone steps and vaguely look down.

I can't see where it's going from below
because it's faint.

A man with one arm emerged from the haze below.

He was the man I had just overtaken.
He passes by beside me in silence.

The unfriendly and unsightly man.

I thought about it somehow.

My heart was pounding even though I was absent.

(How long have I been up?)

I can't remember.
My memory was hazy.

I felt the same whether I went up or down.

It may be the same even when I'm resting.

I got up after a while.
Step by step, I started descending the stone steps.

It was easier to go down than to go up.
However, the stone steps continued forever.

(What is this stone step?)
I thought it was very similar.

This stone step, the next one,
the stone steps in front of it...

There is a person coming up the stone steps.
He was a man with a bad eye and one arm.
