【SS】異境の空

この星の空には鳥がいない。
まったく一羽もいない。

その空の下、この地上には　
トカゲみたいな爬虫類タイプの動物がいる。

一角獣みたいな哺乳類としか思えない動物もいる。

さらに、海なのか湖なのかわからないが　
水中にはサカナらしきものが泳いでいる。

けれど、鳥はいない。
一羽もいない。

少なくとも、この星に緊急着陸してから　
我々は一度も見ていない。

羽のある動物は過去に絶滅したか　
または進化することがなかったのだろう。

あるいは、こんな陰鬱な色の空を見上げても　
なかなか飛びたい気持ちになれなかったのかもしれない。

それとも、意志のようなものが空にあり　
生き物の受け入れを頑かたくなに拒こばんでいるのだろうか。

その可能性も否定できない。
なぜなら、この星には翅はねのある虫さえいないのだ。

「まだ修理できないのか」

地を這う虫を踏みつけながら、我らが艦長が　
小言のような独り言を呟く。

「どうもエンジンの奴、動きたくないようですぜ」
おれは工具で肩を叩く。

「どっこも悪いとこ、見つからんのですよ」

「なのに点火しない」
「ええ。ウンともスンとも」

「どういうことだ」

おれは、お手上げのポーズ。

黙って空を見上げる艦長の横顔が　
ひどく老けたように見えた。

おれの気のせいだろうか。

「食事、できたわよ」
ナンシーが呼んでいる。

この星の肉も果実も水も　
そんなに悪くないような気がする。

慣れてしまえば、宇宙食よりマシだ。

空さえ見上げなければ、
この星だって、まんざら悪くない。

この気の滅入るような暗い空さえ　
見上げなければ････

The Sky at the Other End

There are no birds in the sky of this star.
There is no one at all.

Under the sky there is a reptile-type animal
like a lizard on the ground.

Some animals seem to be only mammals like unicorns.

Furthermore, we do not know if it is the sea or the lake,
but there are fish in the water.

But there are no birds.
There is no one.

We have not seen it at least once
since we made an emergency landing on this star.

Feathered animals would have been extinct
or have not evolved in the past.

Or perhaps nobody would like to fly
when looking up at such a dark sky.

Or is there something like will in the sky
and stubbornly refusing to accept living things?

I can not deny that possibility.
Because, there are no feathered insects on this star.

"Can't repair yet?"

While stepping on the worm that crawls on the ground,
our captain mutters a soliloquy like an excuse.

"The guy in the engine does not want to move."
I tap my shoulder with a tool.

"I can't find a bad place anywhere."

"Although it does not fire?"
"Yes. There is no response at all."

"What does it mean?"

I am in a pose of giving up.

The profile of the captain who silently looked up
at the sky, looked as if he was old.

Is it because of my mind?

"I'm ready for the meal."
Nancy is calling.

I feel that the meat,
fruits and water of this star are not so bad.

Once I get used to it, it's better than space food.

If I do not look up at the sky,
even this star is not so bad.

If I do not look up even this bleak dark sky...
