The Communication Barrier with the Elderlies

I feel frustrated with the scarcity of time schedules at the rural Toho Cinemas.

It's obvious, but values differ with different generations

Moving to the countryside, I've had a lot of opportunities to have chats with elderlies. I used to live in a four-generation household, including great-grandma and grandma. Therefore, I was familiar with and used to interacting with the elderlies. However, since high school, I've often felt discrepancies in conversations. The older generation tends to communicate without updating their values (e.g., traditional gender roles like men working and women managing the household) when talking to younger generations. However,  time changes. In my experience, the internet and smartphones played a significant role. In the future, topics like generative AI and other AI-related developments might cause a shift in values that people may find challenging to understand.

Change is the only constant

I feel that in rural areas, there's not much consideration given to such differences in values. One possible reason for this is the quantity of elderly people ; they are overwhelmingly in the majority. Moreover, people tend to put themselves in a community with childhood friends, leading to marginal interaction with younger age groups. Consequently, this results in further divergence of values and a complete lack of interaction. I believe this is the current situation in the countryside.
I recently faced this communication barrier again. It took a huge amount of time and effort to convey the conversation accurately, and there was little room for positive discussions. However, humans are not eternal beings. Since life is cyclical, change is inevitable. The sense of urgency in adapting to these changes is another challenge.

Bye!
