A Short Story / Like Singing A Christmas Song

I heard the other day that your girlfriend was ill in bed. To tell the truth, I felt glad to hear the news. I gave up being your best girlfriend years ago, but I've wanted to be your second best girlfriend. Do you mind if I ask you to spend the coming X'mas eve with me?

I am happy to hear you say so, and at the same time I'm very much disturbed by your words. At present I have a loved one though she has been in the hospital. 

---

I know, I know. I never hope you'll break up with her and that I'll become your dearest. I just want you to spend the coming Christmas eve with me, right? 

---

But if I follow your words, that means my betrayal of her trust. I cannot accept your proposal. 

---

All I want is to spend the coming X'mas eve with you. I will never regret if your love for me melts away and disappears immediately after the Eve because I know love is never everlasting no matter how much we love each other.

今回ご応募していただいた長月龍誠さんと羽根宮糸夜さんの作品は、いずれもエッセイです。
今までご応募していただいた作品には、私の感想を書き添えていたのですが、ネタバレになってしまうのは良くないかな、と思いましたので、あえて感想は割愛させていただきます。

「#絶望のメリークリスマス」というお題は、自分で考えたものですが、皆さんの作品を拝読していくうちに、一見絶望と思えることも、幸せな経験だったのかもしれないと思えるようになりました。

　私自身も「#絶望のメリークリスマス」というお題で書いてみようと思いましたが、我ながら難しいお題ですね。本当の絶望ってなんだろう？と考えるとなかなか思い浮かびませんでした。
　ということで、中島みゆき「クリスマスソングを唄うように」という歌から連想したショートショートを書いてみました。
