〜my original fairy tale③〜 I wish you a happy birthday.

Today I will continue the story here.
I wish you a happy birthday.
"Just look up while the sun is out. If you look carefully, you will naturally know what that person needs for their special day."
With that, Ernie stopped the sled on top of a cloud. Right below, someone was having a bouquet made at a florist.
"That must be the partner of the girl who is going to celebrate our birthday today."
Ernie and Poncho decided to watch from above the clouds for a while.
As they excitedly watched the colorful and cheerful bouquet being made, Ernie seemed to notice that his partner looked a little troubled.
"What's wrong? He looks a little troubled."
Poncho also seemed to notice his partner's troubled look. Ernie felt warm inside, thinking that Poncho must be a kind person who notices things well.
"Maybe it's our turn. The hint for such a time is written on the first page of this book for today."
And with that, he tore open a page of the red book and started reading. The pages of the book only contained a few words and illustrations, but they were enough of a hint for Ernie, who had been closely watching what had happened up until now.
"There must be a flower missing from that bouquet. It's the girl's favorite flower."
"And that flower is..."
Poncho said, looking puzzled.
"I can't tell from this note. So I'll pray here. I hope today will be a wonderful day for the girl and her partner."
Ernie closed his eyes and bowed his head, and the lights of the town gathered around him. When Ernie opened his eyes, the moon appeared in the sky.
"I saw the two of them walking surrounded by bright, sun-like flowers. Sun-like flowers. Yes, sunflowers. I'm sure sunflowers are flowers that bring back memories for the two of them. So..."
And so Ernie poured the light that had gathered around him into the bouquet. When the bouquet was finally handed to the girl, a single sunflower was blooming brightly. The girl who received the bouquet had a smile of genuine happiness on her face.
"It reminds me of when we first met."
The girls talked about their memories, and the girl's birthday became a very special and warm one.
Seeing her smile, Ernie and Poncho were filled with happiness.
"I told you, if you do this job, you'll feel better. I don't know what happened, but you always seemed sad."
Poncho was taken aback by Ernie's words.
"Before I got here, I had a sad experience that left a hole in my heart. Maybe it's because of that hole, but I can't remember it clearly. But Ernie, I feel like working with you is really helping me get my energy back."

今日はお話の続きをお伝えします。
I wish you a happy birthday.
「おひさまが顔を出している間はとにかくよく見あげて。よく見ていればその人の大切な日に何が必要なのか自然にわかるはずだよ。」
そう言ってアーニーはソリを雲の上にストップさせました。ちょうどその下には、花屋さんでブーケを作ってもらっている人がいました。
「あそこにいるのがきっと、今日僕たちが生まれた日をお祝いする予定の女の子のパートナーだよ。」
アーニーとポンチョはしばらく雲の上から様子を見ることにしました。
カラフルで元気が出るような花束が出来上がっていくのをワクワクした気持ちで見守っていた時、アーニーはパートナーが少し困った顔をしていることに気付いたようです。
「どうしたのだろう、なんだか困っているようだ。」
ポンチョもパートナーの困り顔に気づいたようです。ポンチョはきっとよく気の付く優しい人なんだとアーニーは思って心が温かくなりました。
「僕たちの出番かもしれないね。こんな時ヒントはこの本の今日の１ページに書いてあるんだ。」
そういって赤い本の１ページをやぶって読み始めました。本のページにはちょっとした単語やイラストしか描かれていないけれど、今までの様子をじっと見守ってきたアーニーにとっては十分なヒントでした。
「きっと足りない花があるんだ、あのブーケには。女の子の一番好きな花がね。」
「その花っていうのは・・・」
とポンチョは不思議そうです。
「このメモからじゃわからないな。だから、ここで祈ってみるね。今日の日が女の子にとって、そして女の子のパートナーにとっても素敵な日であるように。」
アーニーは目がそう言って目をつむりうつむくと、まちの明かりがアーニーのもとに集まってきました。アーニーが目を開けると、空にはおつきさまが顔を出していました。
「明るくておひさまみたいな花に囲まれて歩いている二人の姿が見えたんだ。おひさまみたいな花。そう、ヒマワリだよ。きっとヒマワリの花は二人にとって思い出の花なんだよ。じゃあ・・・」
そういってアーニーの元に集まった光をブーケに注ぎました。ついにブーケが女の子に手渡されるその時には、元気に光かがやくヒマワリの花が一輪咲いていました。ブーケを受け取った女の子は心から幸せそうな笑顔を浮かべました。
「出会ったときのことを思い出すなあ。」
思い出話に花が咲き、女の子の誕生日はとても特別であたたかいものになりました。
その笑顔を見てアーニーたちも幸せな気持ちに包まれました。
「ね、言ったでしょ。この仕事をしていればきっと元気になるよ。何があったかわからないけどポンチョなんだかずっと悲しそうだったから。」
アーニーの言葉を聞いてポンチョはハッとしました。
「ここに来るまでに心にぽっかりと穴が開くような悲しい体験をしたんだ。穴が開いてしまったせいかはっきりと思い出せないんだけど。でもアーニー、君と仕事を続けること本当に元気を取り戻せる気がしてきたよ。」
