大量のネタを整理したかったので、ここに記録することにしたものの、実際見直してみると結構な量でした。最後まで書き切ることができるのか・・・。

2 日本の歴史について

将軍

将軍は普通「総司令官」と訳される。もともとは遠征軍の最高司令官に対して天皇が与える綸旨の称号であった。のちに日本の行政府の長に対して天皇から与えられる正式の称号になった。
天皇の代わりに武士の棟梁である将軍が日本を統治するのは、源頼朝が最初であった。彼は1185年に鎌倉幕府を開いた。
室町幕府を開いた足利尊氏、江戸幕府を開いた徳川家康なども有名な将軍である。江戸時代が終わるまでの約700年の間武士の政府による統治が続いた。将軍の制度は1867年まで続くことになった。

Shogun
Shogun is usually translated as generalissimo. It was originally a temporary title given by the emperor to the commander-in-chief of an expeditionary army. Later, it developed into the official title given by the emperor to the administrative head of the country.
Minamoto no Yoritomo was the first Shogun, or leader of samurai, to rule Japan in place of the emperor. He established the Kamakura Shogunate in 1185.
Ashikaga Takauji, who established The Muromachi Shogunate, and Tokugawa Ieyasu, who established the Edo Shogunate, are other famous Shoguns. In Japan, samurai government reigned for about 700 years until the end of the Edo era. This shogunate system lasted until 1867.

幕府

幕府は将軍の独裁のもとでの封建時代の政府を指した。幕府は絶対統治権を持ち、各地の大名を支配した。徳川家康によって始められた江戸幕府は約200年続いた。
それは戦いのない平和な時代であったと言われている。

Bakufu, or Shogunate 
Bakufu, the Shogunate was the feudal government under the dictatorship of the Shogun. It had the absolute power of administration and ruled over the feudal lords of the provinces. The Edo Shogunate established by Tokugawa Ieyasu lasted for about 700years.　It is said to be a very peaceful era without wars.

大名

大名とは封建領主のことである。封建時代には日本は封建領土に分割されており、それぞれを大名が直接支配していた。しかし、日本全土に対する絶対統治権は一人の将軍に握られていた。

Daimyo, or feudal lord
Daimyo means a feudal lord. In the feudal ages, Japan was divided into fiefs, each governed directly by a daimyo. However, the absolute power of administration in the country was held by the single Shogun and his government, not by daimyo.

侍

侍はもともと平安時代に都から地方へ派遣された役人の従者であった。のちに侍は武士道を専門とする武士となり、ついには政治への影響力を持つようになるものもいた。

Samurai
Samurai were originally the servants of government officials who were dispatched from the capital to rural communities during the Heian period. They later become warriors specializing in the martial arts and eventually some went on to become influential in politics.

武士道

武士道とは文字通りには「武士の道」を意味し、封建時代における武士が守るべき規範を指している。この規範には武士が守るべき道徳の精神や原則が具体的に述べてあり、忠義、勇気、名誉が重要視されていた。

Bushido
Bushido literally means "the Way Of the Bushi" and refers to the Japanese warriors code of Chivalry in the feudal ages. This code embodied the spirit and principles of morality to which the samurai warriors were supposed to adhere. It emphasized loyalty, courage and honor.
