Global Journey Blog vol.8 -Yui Ikegami
Hi all! I’m Yui Ikegami.
I have only a few weeks left of my study abroad experience in Miami, and I will be returning home in about two weeks.
In this blog, I will try to cut through my daily life as a study abroad student in order to make myself roar with memories when I return home.
Although the content will be completely undemanding, I would be very happy if anyone is interested in my lifestyle.
I am also looking forward to your feedback.
[Waffle bowl at the smoothie shop I go to]
I am a super foodie, so of course I am talking about food from the beginning.
One of the reasons I was so happy to come to the tropics is that I often came across foods with coconut in them, and I gradually became addicted to their good taste.
I've tried coconut ice cream, juices, yogurt, curry, and many other things,
The coconut whip I encountered at a smoothie shop was the best.
I had a waffle bowl there with the whipped topping, waffles, granola, and fruit,
The coconut and waffle are a perfect match, and the gentle sweetness of the whip fills your mouth.
The best way to enjoy this waffle bowl is to sit on a shady little hill with a friend and savor it in the breeze.
This semester, this has become my favorite thing to do every Tuesday.
About 3 hours of class, a 2 hour round trip to and from campus, and a 15 minute lunch break to get to the next class.
It was such a slightly strenuous day, so after discovering the Waffle Bowl, I got motivated by looking forward to having the bowl.
Contributing to my weekly visits, I was able to get a beaming smile from the man who worked there.
I have been planning to somehow recreate it after returning to Japan, but coconut whip seems to be difficult to obtain.
But it is one of the best memories I have, so I will do my best to reach that taste:)
Sunset from the 5th floor of the library.
Library.
When I first came here, I was impressed by the size of the facilities and the fact that I could use it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,
I was impressed and glad that I don't have to worry about when the library closes!
I enjoyed working on my computer until late at night.
But that excitement only lasted for a short time, and now I use the library as a place to push myself.
Especially when I am busy with assignments due that day, I take all the materials I need for them and a charger, and set up in a carefully selected spot where I can stay for an extended period of time.
As I went through this process, I found a few favorite seats, and the sunsets I always see from those seats are very memorable.
It was kind of stressful at around that time, but the sunsets were beautiful, and they always cheered me up.
As I have mentioned in my blog before, I love the vivid colors of the sky and the clouds, and I began to look forward to seeing the sky in the evening on a clear day.
The sun often set right around the time I came to the library, so I would often wander around by myself and take pictures of the sky before choosing a seat.
I don't want to be stressed by assignments anymore, but for the rest of the days I like to go enjoy the sunset with a nice elevated view of the library.
[Publix, a dreamy Oikos binge shopping]
Publix is the supermarket of choice for Florida residents.
It is located just outside the campus and is very crowded with locals even on weekdays.
There is a wide selection of products, especially condiments of various kinds regardless of the region.
Sometimes I'm so impressed with a dish I've had in a diner or on a trip that I go looking for the ingredients (not talking about whether I make it or not), and I can get basically everything I need.
In one such exploration of Publix, I found Oikos yogurt.
It was a yogurt that I had seen my protein-loving brother eating, and I was addicted to eating it, too,
When I first saw it in the supermarket, I remember being very excited by the variety.
In addition to the blueberry and strawberry I had tried before, I found berry, banana, vanilla, peach, lemon, and mango.
It was amazing. I was thrilled.
Then an even more tempting offer: buy 10 and get a discount. I had to try it.
I like banana, vanilla, mango, and peach. I can't narrow it down even though they say they are almost my favorites.
It was such a dreamy shopping spree, but it is a bit difficult to carry my luggage afterwards.
In addition to the daily necessities and food I usually buy, 10 yogurts take up a lot of space, and I have to carry them to the dormitory with my backpack and both hands full.
It was summer when I bought tons of food, and it was a good memory of struggling to carry them under the blazing sun.
Now I buy the large Oikos vanilla flavor for about 10 servings and eat them with fruit.
This was also a very memorable flavor after the waffle bowl.
After returning to Japan, I would like to try making drained yogurt while chasing after Oikos for a limited time.
Lastly
Thank you to all who have read this far.
I have not been able to write about anything too sparkling, but I have been able to write about all the memories that have colored my life as an exchange student,
I am very happy to have been able to write this blog.
Once again, I was able to think about what I like about my current life and what makes me happy,
I will have fun for the rest of the days here.
See you in the next blog; Summary of Study Abroad!
