大山門の四天王をみて、お大師さんの存在感が伝わる 　　　　　　　　　　　　　Even if you look at the four heavenly Buddha statue of Daisanmon, you can feel the presence of the Temple.

仲見世通会の商店街から正面に平間寺(川崎大師)の大山門が見える。コロナ禍で商店街参道は閑散としていた。

The Daisanmon of Heiken-ji Temple (Kawasaki Daishi) can be seen in front of the Nakamise shopping street.　The approach to the shopping street was quiet due to the corona.

大山門は堂塔、伽藍を囲む浄域結界の総門で、そのなかに東西南北から本尊を護る守護神として、仏教における天部の仏神である持国天、増長天、広目天、多聞天の4像が安置されている。すべて甲冑をまとい刀剣を携え、仏敵を威嚇する姿である。

The Daisanmom is the main gate of the Jodo Barrier that surrounds the temple tower and the cathedral. Among them, four statues of the Buddhist gods of the heavens, Jikokuten, Zochoten, Hirometen, and Tamonten, are enshrined as guardian deities that protect the principal image from north, south, east, and west.　All of them are wearing armor and carrying swords, threatening French enemies.

多聞天は、日本では四天王の一尊として造像安置する場合は「多聞天」と呼ばれ、独尊像として安置する場合は「毘沙門天」と呼ばれている。

In Japan,Tamonten is called "Tamonten" when it is placed as one of the four heavenly , and "Bishamonten" when it is placed as a single statue.

真言密教寺院である京都 東寺の立体曼陀羅を見ても分かるように、大日如来像を中心に如来像、菩薩像を囲むように四天王が安置されている。

As you can see from the three-dimensional mandala of Kyoto Toji, which is a Shingon esoteric Buddhist temple, the four heavenly kings are enshrined around the Dainichi Nyorai statue, the Nyorai statue, and the Bodhisattva statue.

コロナ禍といえども、正月三が日は初詣には疫病退散祈願などで賑わいを見せるだろう。
やはり、篤い信仰を集めるお大師さんの存在感がヒシヒシと伝わってきた。

Even if it is a corona illness, it will be crowded with prayers for the extinction of the plague on the first day of the New Year. After all, the presence of the master who gathers deep faith has been transmitted to him.
