This work was composed by Mozart during his stay in Paris in 1778, and is a concerto featuring an unusual combination of solo instruments: flute and harp. Mozart dedicated this work to Marie Antoinette Nicole Duchesne, the daughter of the aristocrat who commissioned it, and her father, Adrien Duchesne.
This work consists of three movements. The first movement begins with a fast tempo called Allegro. After the orchestra plays a gorgeous introduction, the flute and harp appear. The flute sings a pure and graceful melody. The harp plays richly resonant chords and grace notes. Both respond to each other with elegance and grace. The orchestra also supports the solo instruments and sometimes interacts with them. This movement is full of elegant taste, rich in French spirit.
The second movement begins at a slow tempo called Andantino. Here, the flute and harp play independently of the orchestra, like a double concerto.
