ロック・ファンにも愛好者の多い「カルミナ・ブラーナ」は、大オーケストラとコーラスが生み出すシンプルで圧倒的なビートの洪水が魅力の現代曲屈指の名曲です。この曲について、私はヨッフム指揮の録音が最も好きだということを皆さんにお伝えしたいと思います。

カルミナ・ブラーナは、ドイツの作曲家オルフが作ったカンタータという声楽曲です。カンタータとは、オラトリオよりも小規模で劇的な要素が少ない合唱曲のことです。カルミナ・ブラーナは、中世の詩集に基づいており、「運命」「春」「酒」「愛」「宴会」などをテーマにしています。この曲は非常にリズミカルでダイナミックで、映画やCMなどでもよく使われます。

若手指揮者が新しいオーケストラとやった新録音の方が分がよさそうに思えるかもしれませんが、私は意外にも硬派の古典指揮者ヨッフムが名門ベルリン・ドイツ・オペラを率いてのこの１枚が最高の出来だと思います。

ヨッフム盤は従来のスタイルだと言われるかもしれませんが、私はオルフは案外この当たりの線を描いて作曲したのではないかと思える要所を心得た表現を聴くことができ、スタンダードというに相応しい内容を持っていると感じます。

また、ソリストも非常に質が高いです。

ヤノヴィッツ、シュトルツェ、フィッシャー=ディースカウという名歌手をソリストに迎えて、独唱曲の部分が絶品なのも勝因ですが、オーケストラの豪快かつ重厚な鳴り具合もさすが本場の威力です。

１９６７年録音とはいえ、本場のオルフという感じはまだ薄れていないです。

オリジナルスのＣＤ化によって音質も向上し、ヨッフムの一徹な心情が青春の回顧とともに生々しく再生されていくことでしょう。

この曲には、より華麗で圧倒的な、興奮を誘う演奏が他にもあるかもしれませんが、その中でこのヨッフム盤はいつまでも"なつかしさ"を失わないです。

官能性の上で多少物足りない所があるとしても、正統派の強味は不変であると私は思います。

ちなみにオルフはこの曲の成功の勢いで「カトゥリ・カルミナ」という続編も書いていますが、こちらは今いちの出来です。

With the CD version of the originals, the sound quality has improved, and Jochum's earnest feelings will be vividly reproduced as he reminisces about his youth.

There may be other performances of this song that are more brilliant, overwhelming, and exciting, but this Jochum edition will never lose its "nostalgia".

Even if there is something lacking in terms of sensuality, I think that the strengths of orthodoxy remain unchanged.
