クルレンツィスが描くショスタコーヴィチの『死者の歌』――死と芸術の究極の対話

この作品は、ショスタコーヴィチが1969年に完成させた、彼の最後から二番目の交響曲です。11の詩による歌曲からなり、死に直面した人間の様々な感情や思想を表現しています。
作曲家自身も、この作品を書きながら重病に苦しみ、死の影に立たされていました。しかし、彼はその苦しみを音楽に昇華させ、人生と芸術の真髄を探求しました。
この作品は、一般的には難解で重苦しいイメージがありますが、クルレンツィスの演奏は、それを覆すような明るさと美しさを持っています。

Shostakovich's "Song of the Dead" as depicted by Currentzis: The ultimate dialogue between death and art
Hello, I'm Daiki Wada, a music critic. This time, I would like to introduce a performance of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 14 "Song of the Dead" conducted by Currentzis.
This work is Shostakovich's penultimate symphony, completed in 1969. It consists of 11 poems and expresses the various emotions and thoughts of people facing death.
The composer himself was suffering from a serious illness and was in the shadow of death while writing this work. However, he channeled his suffering into music, exploring the essence of his life and art.
This work generally has an image of being difficult and heavy, but Currentzis' performance has a brightness and beauty that overturns that impression.
He has a deep understanding and love of Shostakovich's music and captures his intentions perfectly.
His conducting is precise, yet free and passionate. Both the orchestra and the soloists respond to his instructions and bring out the maximum appeal of the piece.
In particular, the tones of stringed instruments are rich and expressive, almost as if they were alive. Percussion instruments are also used effectively, adding to the tension and rhythm of the piece. The recording is excellent, and you can hear every detail of the performance.
This performance showed us new possibilities for Shostakovich's symphonies. I sincerely appreciate this work and performance. I want to listen to it over and over again.
