Day 13

We talked about Culture shock and Fashion in General class.

Culture shock is experienced for everyone to live or work or study abroad. For example, Foods, Daily routines, Pronunciations. How should we overcome it? I think, I need to adjust to that. And I could do it for now. I guess I have spent a long time in abroad last year. So I don’t feel like missing my country.

Fashion is the reflection of our values. That will be art like paintings or sculptures that tell us the history of humankind. Is Fast fashion really good for us? Surely, Fast fashion is cheaper than others, we can to buy it easy. But we produce the trash too. 92 million tonnes of textiles waste is produced every year. And the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. Fashion industry makes trends every time. Trends have a big impact of economy and culture. We may have to change this situation.

We have talked about sensitive issue in the Conversation class. Last week, we talked about “Should we allow the Death penalty ?”. This week’s question is “Is it ethical to listen to MJ’s music?”

Michael Jackson is known as King of Pop. But he was accused as child sexual abuse in 1993. This case remains unsolved at now.

His music remains to listen by a lot of people. MJ’s musical is crated in Broadway, and gaining popularity. In the other hand, Louis Vuitton was creating the collection that was inspired by MJ in 2019. But they didn’t release it when new witnesses are appeared in New documentary.

Sometimes, Artists reflect to the artworks their minds. So listening to MJ’s music means the agreement to his mind such as desires to child sexual abuse. Is it ethical?

On the other hand, we sometimes buy the clothes at Zara and Uniqlo. They are invested to using forced laborers. But we remain to buy and wear their clothes at now. Is there difference between MJ’s case and Zara’s case ? This is so difficult issue.
