Day26

I went to Opera House that is a part of Symphony Hours series. I registered this series as a subscriber. I couldn’t imagine that I’ll be a subscriber of Orchestra concert series at Sydney. But this plan is better to visit.

Today’s concert is so unique. Program is consisted by 4 musical pieces which were inspired by Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”.
This one of the last Shakespeare’s piece contains music and songs originally. The story takes place in isolated island and has magic, revenge, family as other his works also have.

In 1695 Henry Purcell who was known as the composer of “Dido and Aeneas” composed short overture for “The Tempest”.

In 1873 one of the greatest composer Tchaikovsky composed a symphonic poem based on “The Tempest”. This work was suggested by Vladimir Vasilievich Stasov who is the mentor of Tchaikovsky and “The Five”. When Tchaikovsky finished to compose this work, Stasov said “How magnificent! The love scenes what beauty, what languor, what passion!”

In 1923 a French composer Honegger composed new overture for new production of “The Tempest” at Paris. This overture makes us anxiety. He depicted well the situation that the storm is coming.

In 1925 a Finnish composer Sibelius who is known as a lot of works were based on Finnish myths and legends also composed for “The Tempest” after he finished to compose his last symphony. He had an idea to compose the music was based on the story since 1901. Despite of the idea is attracting him a long time, this piece is not recorded until 1992.

These pieces were mixed and performed with reading this story by John Bell who is one of the greatest actor in Australia.

This idea is so great, because I had already attempted to similar idea in Tokyo for “Cinderella”and “Hansel and Gretel”.
I could earn confidence about my ideas again.
