May 17, 2024: My Wife, Rubik’s Cube（妻、ルービックキューブ）

My wife had been addicted to Netflix until just recently. But it seems to have cooled off. She still watches dramas on Netflix, but no longer as much as she used to. On its behalf, she began to try a new thing, Rubik's Cubes. One day, I went from my room to the living room and found a Rubik's Cube on the table. Since then, I have often seen her struggling to play with the cube. Sometimes, she used YouTube videos to get some hints from other players. But she could not finish the cube. So, she bought a used book at a BookOff shop to get more hints. She is now addicted to playing with the cube, and she seems to finish it soon.
I do not know why she began to play with the cube. I do not intend to ask her why, either. But she is sure to have gotten something new in her mind. It is not strange that she suddenly begins a new thing beyond my imagination. She tends to start to try something new one day for a change. When she is bored with what she has been doing at the time, she seems to begin to think about trying something new. Trying something new is not strange because everyone does it for a change. But she always surprises me with her new attempts, which are beyond my imagination. Sometimes, I am tempted to ask her why she has come up with these ideas, but I have never asked. I am not so distorted as to try to search the bottom of her heart. As long as she enjoys her life, I am happy and do not intend to be intrusive on her heart. And I do not need to do so. She always tells me when something is bothering her.

　妻はつい最近までネットフリックスにはまっていました。でも、どうやら冷めたようです。まだネットフリックスでドラマを見てはいますが、以前ほどではなくなりました。その代わり、新しくルービックキューブに挑戦し始めました。ある日、自分の部屋からリビングに行くと、テーブルの上にルービックキューブが置いてありました。それ以来、妻がルービックキューブに奮闘するのをよく見かけるようになりました。YouTubeの動画の力を借りていたこともありました。でも、キューブは完成しませんでした。そこで、更にヒントを得ようとブックオフで古本を買いました。今、ルービックキューブにはまっています。
　妻が、ルービックキューブをやり始めた理由はわかりません。理由を聞くつもりもありません。でも、彼女の頭の中に何か新しいものが思いついたことは確かです。突然、妻がボクの想像を超えて、新しいことを始めるのは不思議なことではありません。ある日突然、気分転換に新しいことを始めることがよくあります。その時にやっていたことに飽きると、何か新しいことに挑戦しようと考え始めるようです。新しいことに挑戦すること自体は、誰もが気分転換のためにやっていることなので、不思議なことではありません。でも、彼女はいつもボクの想像を超えた新しいことに挑戦するので、びっくりします。ときどき、なんでそんなことを思いつくのか聞いてみたくなるのですが、一度も聞いたことはありません。妻の心の底を探ろうとするほど、ボクはひねくれていません。妻が生活を楽しんでくれていれば、ボクはうれしいし、彼女の心に踏み込むつもりもはありません。また、その必要もありません。何かあれば、いつもボクに話してくれます。
