November 3, 2022: Fireworks, Matsudo, Seasonal Tradition, Summer, Winter （花火、松戸、風物詩、夏、冬）

Last week, a fireworks festival took place in Matsudo City, Chiba. I could see it from my home, away from the city. But it did not excite me so much since it was so far away that I could not hear the sounds well. Nevertheless, it entertained me a lot since I had missed such a festival for a long time. My town held a fireworks festival yearly for at least ten years until the outbreak of COVID-19. It was larger and more spectacular than those of neighbouring cities. So, it attracted many viewers from other cities and made that day the busiest of the year. I expect it to revive next year. 
Fireworks are a summer feature in Japan but not in Europe. They are a winter feature in the UK. I had been to it with my family only once when I lived in the UK. But it was so cold and freezing that we never went out again. The UK sees no fireworks in the summer. The UK's summer has such a bright sky till late that the fireworks are out of sight. It has such a blue sky until 20:00 to 21:00 in the summer. When I had my first summer in the UK, I understood it. 
Japan sees the sunset earlier than the UK. So, it can hold fireworks festivals at any time. As suggested by Matsudo City, autumn may be the best season.

　先週、千葉県の松戸市で花火大会ありました。松戸から離れたボクの家からも花火が上がるのが見えました。会場から離れているため、花火が上がる音が聞こえず、やや迫力不足でした。でも、久々に生の花火を見られて楽しかったです。ボクの街でも、コロナ前は花火大会が行われました。近隣の街の大会と比べると規模が大きく、他の街からも大勢見物に来ます。ボクの街が1年で一番賑わう日でした。来年は復活すると願っています。
　日本では、花火は夏の風物詩ですが、欧州では事情が異なります。英国では、花火は冬の風物詩です。英国に住んでいたときに、一度、家族で花火を見に行きましたが、寒くて凍えそうでした。それ以来、花火を見に行くのは止めました。夏に上げればと思うのですが、夏に花火を上げても日照時間が長いため見えないのです。夏は、20から21時くらいまで日が沈まず、青空のままです。英国で夏に夜の空を見上げると、これでは無理だと納得でした。
　日本は、日が沈む時間が早いので1年中花火を上げることができます。松戸のように夏にこだわる必要はないのかも知れません。
