英語日記　No.54

こんにちは。4月下旬頃に書いた日記です。

A few weeks ago, I saw a sign at the front door of a bookstore announcing that it would be closing at the end of April. I was shocked by the news, especially since I hadn't bought a book or magazine there this year. 

Coincidentally, I came across an article mentioning that the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry has established a project team to promote bookstores and support them as they become fewer in number. This decline is attributed to the increasing popularity of online book sales and e-books. I also learned how the implementation of cashless payments in small or medium-sized stores may exacerbate their profitability issues. I hope the government tackles the issues faced by bookstores. 

When my children were younger, we used to visit bookstores at the beginning of long holidays and enjoy searching for books together. It's a fond memory for me.
