【実施報告】大学生対象セミナー『“How I survived for 35 years in the world of work”』

“How I survived for 35 years in the world of work”と題し、グローバルビジネスを学ぶ大学生のみなさん対象にゲストスピーカーとしてレクチャーをさせていただきました。

概要：35年で21社勤めたうちの3社における転職、職種転換についての体験談。また仕事を変わる動機となってきた考え方やポリシー。仕事以外に熱中したファッションや物書きと本業との関係。さらにこれから社会に出る学生さんに大切と思える人生や仕事におけるエッセンスを厳選してお伝えしました。

櫻井先生コメント：
山本先生は大学生向けの講義は初めてとのことでしたが、まさにこれから社会に出る学生たちを励まし背中を押してくれる要素を、35年のキャリアの中から抽出し語っていただきました。
変化とチャレンジに富んだストーリー、その根底にあるポリシーなど山本先生の講義に、学生たちは皆、大いに刺激を受けたと語っています。さらにQ&Aでは経験者だからこその説得力ある受け答えをされて、そのひと言ごとに皆、頷いていました。私自身も「なるほど」と思わされた応答が何度もありました。 　
今回は、外国人中心のクラスのため、英語で講義をいただきましたが、国籍を問わず、これからの予測不可能な未来に備えるためにも多くの学生に聞いて欲しい内容です。

Aさんのコメントから：
While her speech mainly revolved around opportunities and challenges at work, there are some specific takeaways that I could pick.
・First, she taught me that having a strong motivation/ cause could help me in achieving my dreams.
・Second, I learned to never give up in difficult situations and make my struggles as a strong driver for me to achieve my dreams.
・Lastly, Ms. Yamamoto’s story also taught me to open myself to challenges and be flexible.
I was glad to have her sharing her story because it changed the way I think about the business environment. I was so naïve at the beginning to think that the business environment is a stable one, while in fact it is always changing and require everyone in it to change and be flexible as well. From now on, I will try to be more proactive and learn more new skills in order to prepare myself for the business environment and be a good leader.

Some of Yamamoto-san ending recommendations were very useful.
・ “Do your best” this one is relatively interesting because from my previous work experience I thought it was commonplace for coworkers to have the mentality “Just do enough to get by.”
・“Have good friends @workplace” I found this one to be especially helpful as my current workplace as very little human interaction with fellow colleagues and I find my motivation to work harder for the sake of fellow colleagues to be nonexistent especially since I had a sense of community in my previous career field.

・Her sharing is an inspiration for me to try more, be exposed to many fields to find out what I would deeply interest in.

・The presentation by Mrs.Yuko Yamamoto opened my mind that under any circumstances, the opportunity is always there for anyone who really means it.
・The courage and her strong personality also stood out and gives meaning to me that the choice is on our own and I am the only person who has control over it.
・Her persistence in learning something vague is a clear example of ‘process will not betray the results.
・The vibes of woman empowerment given by Mrs.Yamamoto really encourage me to take a stand in a small chance, and deliver it into a bigger result.

She has good philosophies such as working hard and being flexible and courageous. However if we look deeper during her presentation she mentioned her daughter many times. This is the main driver in her wanting to be better, flexible and always moving forward. This was the case with my parents as well.

From the many life lessons that I have learned from Ms. Yuko Yamamoto, I have realized one thing that speaks to me the most. I have learned that whatever we do, whether if it’s our daily normal work, the project we’re doing, or even changing jobs, we all have to do it with our heart.

※実施してみての感想：
Q&Aセッションでは、さすがにグローバル人材の集まりだけあって、思いもしなかった質問も飛び出し、答えに窮したりしつつも、そこからまた講義内容を深め、楽しく有意義なコミュニケーションの時間となりました。そのQ&Aと感想を通して、学生のみなさんの将来に対する真剣な思いに感銘を受けました。このような若い人たちがこれからビジネスの世界に入って来られると思うと、頼もしいですし、若い芽が大きく育つように精一杯応援したい気持ちになりました。
