平凡な人生に、突き刺さったことばたち②

That was when I was a university student.
私が大学生の頃の話です。

I was traveling alone in Egypt end I joined Nile river cruise tour.
私はエジプトへ一人旅をして、ナイル川クルーズのツアーに参加しました。

I spent three days on a big boat called "felucca" with other participants.
私は他の参加者と一緒にフルーカと呼ばれる大きなボートの上で3日間過ごしました。

Of course, we spent most of our time on the felucca and talked about many things.
当然私たちはほとんどの時間をフルーカの上で過ごして、たくさんのことを話しました。

I talked with many people, including German lawyers,an Italian student, and a young Australian traveler.
私はドイツ人弁護士の人たちや、イタリアの学生、オーストラリア旅行者など色々な人と話をしました。

It was so difficult to understand how to play cards in English and that was a very good memory.
英語でトランプをするのはとても難しく、しかしとてもいい思い出になりました。

Sunrises and sunsets over Nile river put me in a sentimental mood.
ナイル川の向こうに見える日の出と日の入りは、私に旅を感じさせました。

On the felucca, our pleasure was food.
フルーカの上での私たちの楽しみは食べ物でした。

The most often served dish was bread stuffed with vegetables.
最もよく出た料理は、野菜を挟んだパンでした。

We got very excited to see an egg dish on the table.
卵料理がテーブルに並ぶ時、私たちはとても興奮しました。

From time to time, some Egyptian children ran along the riverbank with the ship yelling, "What's your name?".
時々、エジプトのこどもたちが川沿いに沿って舟と並走しながら、「What's your name！？」と大声で叫んできました。

Their voices were clear and innocent.
綺麗な、無邪気な声でした。

Unnoticeably, we built a good relationship.
いつの間にか、私ちちはとてもいい関係を築いていました。

At the end of the felucca journey, I felt lonely and said, "see you on someday."
フルーカの旅の終わりに、私は寂しさを感じて「See you on someday」と言いました。※正しくはSee you someday

However, the German lawyer said " see you on Monday? We promised something?"
しかし、ドイツ人の弁護士は「月曜日にまた会うの？何か約束した？」と言いました。

My pronunciation was so bad that people couldn't catch my word.
私の発音が悪く、言葉が伝わっていませんでした。

I said " SOMEDAY " again.
もう一度、SOMEDAY、と言いました。

"We will meet two days later,Hahaha."
「二日後に会うのか、はっはっは。」

He laughed loudly and other people, including me, also laughed a lot.
彼は大きく笑い、私を含む他の参加者も大笑いしました。

This tour was an unforgettable experience for me.
この旅は、私にとって忘れられない経験になりました。
