「初生之犢不畏虎…」1年・蔡 昀勲

皆さんこんにちは。どうも新1年生の蔡 昀勲と申します。台湾から来てからまもなく3年間です、日本語は不慣れなので英語でブログ書きます。

Hello everyone. My name is TSAI YUN SHIUN. I come from Taiwan, and It all happened after the summer of 2019 when I decided to study abroad after graduating from middle school. Back then, the only thing on my mind was football, and my goal was to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. Of course, it was tough when I first came to Japan. Not knowing how to speak Japanese, the time in high school was indeed like hell. Nevertheless, I manage to survive and graduate from high school because of football.

After graduating high school, I was lucky enough to get into the FLA of Sophia university. I knew I wanted to join the football team when I joined the first practice. The whole student-oriented system had indeed surprised me. Even though there is no proper ground for them to practice, everyone still tries to work hard and enjoy playing football. The positive atmosphere made me decide to be one of the members of this fantastic team. Soon, I met with other first-year students and quickly became best friends. Having to know people that have different backgrounds was one of the best things that can be accomplished in this team. We could play alongside each other at the start of this season, and those games were surely unforgettable.
I look forward to continuing to grow with the team and creating more beautiful memories together. To be specific, there are several things that I want to challenge myself.

First, I look forward to getting to know everyone on the team and being friends with them. Heading towards the third year of my stay in Japan, my Japanese has improved a lot, but perhaps it was because of the lack of speaking Japanese during high school that I wasn’t confident enough to speak up. It seems like the only obstacle was myself. After chatting with some of the senpais, I discovered that everyone is just so kind and funny, and it was unnecessary to be shy. The reason why I want to make friends with everyone is that there is more joy in playing football with friends that are like your brothers. Only then can we enjoy all the victories and defeats together, which is one of my ultimate goals in the future.

I want to accumulate as many game experiences as possible starting the first year. Playing as a center back and experiencing real match situations are essential elements. When in a match, a center-back must be prepared to respond to all kinds of problems on and off the ball. Also, it is the best place to learn how to deal with risks because that’s what a center-back has to face every time. To have more chances to play in the weekend matches, I always have to keep myself in good condition and put not only 100 but 200 percent effort into every training. I believe having more experience on the pitch can also benefit my future games. Therefore, it is one of the goals on my prospective checklist.

Lastly, I hope I can get better at finding the balance between my life of football and my life outside of football. There is undoubtedly much more free freedom in university than in high school. I used to live in a dormitory, and life was simple. But now, there are more things to manage and worry about because everything I do is my responsibility. I can choose the kind of life I want to proceed with, which is one of the most uncomfortable things I’ve encountered since I entered college. I admit that I have not been doing a great job of managing my workload. As for me, I have to train in the morning, study in the afternoon, and work at night. It has gone out of control and has successfully destroyed me. In case this situation never happens again, I hope I can learn how to know my limits and prevent overworking myself starting from the next semester.

In conclusion, I am lucky and happy to become one of the members of this big family. I cannot wait to make friends with everybody, play on the pitch alongside each other, and have a more enjoyable life. Although there are still many obstacles to clear, I am ready to challenge myself and write down my history.
