Street photography is a term that covers a range of styles and can be interpreted differently based on cultural perspectives. In Japan, it is understood as "snapshot photography,” which involves going out into the world with a film camera and shooting spontaneously. It’s with this notion that photographer, writer, and filmmaker, Jesse Freeman (@jesselfreeman) of Japan Camera Hunter (@japancamerahunter), is challenging the western ideas of street photography with his curated list of 20 “street” photographers you need to know in 2023.
