Land of Hope and Glory（希望と栄光の国）

No matter what Putin says, it is never acceptable for the strong to attack and subjugate the weak.

恐怖に駆られた独裁者、そして彼に「ノー」と言えない人々に対して、このような残酷で破壊的な行動を止めるために、私たち一人ひとりが何ができるかを考えなければならないと感じています。
I feel that each of us must ask ourselves what we can do to stop such cruel and destructive behaviour towards the fear-driven dictator and those who cannot say "no" to him.

私たちは20世紀ではなく、21世紀を生きているのです。
We are not living in the 20th century, we are living in the 21st century.

今、世界中の多くの人々が、私たちは皆、母なる地球に生まれた「仲間」であるという事実の重要性に気づき始めています。
Many people around the world are now beginning to realise the importance of the fact that we are all "friends" born on Mother Earth.

そこで今日は、誰もが一度は耳にしたことがある、エルガーの荘厳な行進曲「威風堂々」の中の「希望と栄光の国」を聴いていただきたいと思います。
So today I would like to invite you to listen to "Land of Hope and Glory", which appears in the majestic march "Pomp and Circumstance" by Elgar, which we have all heard at one time or another.

BBCプロムスで毎年歌われている最も有名な歌詞を注意深く読むと、これが領土拡張の思想に基づく愛国歌であるという偏狭な解釈は全く当てはまらないことがわかります。
A careful reading of the most famous lyrics, sung annually at the BBC Proms, shows that the narrow-minded interpretation that this is a patriotic song based on the idea of territorial expansion does not quite apply.

この歌詞は、「母なる大地、自由で境界のない地球」に生まれたすべての人への平和のメッセージだと私は解釈しています。
I interpret the lyrics as a message of peace to all those born on "Mother Earth, free and without boundaries".
