Bリーグにハマるきっかけになった体験

僕がBリーグ観戦にハマるきっかけになった原体験は、代々木第一体育館で行われた2016年のリーグ開幕戦だ。

運良く取れたgame2のチケットは、その日が誕生日だった自分へのプレゼントにした。
エリート軍団とされたA東京と雑草とされた琉球の試合は面白くも、どうしても力の差が見える試合だった。
そこで1人の選手に目が向くことになる。
bjリーグの代表として開幕カードに選ばれた琉球のエースガード、岸本隆一である。
力及ばす、他の誰よりも悔しそうに唇を噛み締める姿は心に残った。

何年か経ち、チームとして力をつけた琉球は、
アウェイでA東京に連勝を飾った。
その試合の後、岸本はこう語っている。
「開幕戦で勝てなかった東京さんにアウェイで連勝できるまでになりました！」
その嬉しそうな笑顔で、弾むような口調で語る姿はまた、好印象で、すっかり岸本選手のファンになった。

強豪の一角としてBリーグでその存在を示すものの、なかなか優勝出来なかった琉球は22-23シーズンについにリーグ制覇を果たした。
そのときにはまるで岸本選手本人のように喜んだことを覚えている。
もちろん、本人の目には涙が光っていた。
誰かのせいにするでもなく、努力を続ける姿は見習いたい。

そして、今年も印象に残るシーンがあった。
5/5 広島との試合。今シーズンで引退する朝山選手のホーム最終戦。
残り1分を切ったその試合で、なんとか朝山選手のラストショットをクリエイトしようと敵味方関係なく、調整する岸本選手の姿があった。
無事に朝山選手の最後のシュートがネットを通過して満面の笑みを浮かべる岸本選手から感じたのは対戦相手への、バスケへの崇高なリスペクトだったと思っている。

その証拠と言って良いかわからないが、広島とのファイナルgame3のあと、優勝した広島のロッカールームを1人訪れ、お祝いと今後の激励を伝えていたその姿は、スポーツ観戦の素晴らしさを存分に我々に感じさせてくれたシーンだった。

My foundational experience that got me hooked on watching the B.League was the league's opening game in 2016. I was lucky enough to get tickets for Game 2, and I made it a birthday present for myself. The game between the elite A Tokyo and the underdog Ryukyu was exciting, but the difference in strength was apparent.

One player, in particular, caught my eye: Ryuichi Kishimoto, the ace guard of Ryukyu, who was chosen to represent the bj league in the opening match. Despite being overpowered, his expression, biting his lip in frustration more than anyone else, left a lasting impression on me.

Years later, Ryukyu, having strengthened as a team, achieved consecutive away victories against A Tokyo. After the match, Kishimoto said, "We've reached the point where we can win back-to-back away games against Tokyo, who we couldn't beat in the opening game!" His joyous smile and buoyant tone made me a fan of Kishimoto.

Ryukyu, who had struggled to win the championship despite establishing themselves as a formidable team in the B.League, finally clinched the league title in the 22-23 season. I remember feeling as elated as Kishimoto himself. Of course, tears glistened in his eyes. His persistence and determination, without blaming anyone, are qualities I admire and want to emulate.

This year, there was another memorable scene. On May 5th, in the match against Hiroshima, it was the final home game for player Asayama, who was retiring this season. With less than a minute remaining, Kishimoto, regardless of friend or foe, tried to create Asayama's last shot. When Asayama's final shot successfully went through the net, Kishimoto's beaming smile conveyed his profound respect for his opponent and for basketball.

I don't know if this is the right way to describe it, but after the final Game 3 against Hiroshima, Kishimoto visited the locker room of the victorious Hiroshima alone to congratulate and encourage them for the future. This scene truly showcased the beauty of sportsmanship and the joy of being a sports spectator.
