Prince “Sometimes it Snows in April” (2013)

Prince。説明はしません。私にとって最大級のヒーロー、永遠の憧れ、音楽的最高到達点です。

彼が亡くなったのは2016年4月21日。今から5年前。なので今週は勝手ながらPrinceで押し通させていただきますm(_ _)m

彼は映像作品＝映画に非常に拘った時期があります。代表アルバム「Purple Rain」（1984）は、実は主演映画『Purple Rain』のサントラ。これは今で言うところのメディア・ミックスで、音楽の世界観を映像化して自身の音楽価値をさらに高めた好例です。実際アルバムから”When Doves Cry””Let’s Go Crazy””Purple rain””I Would Die 4 U””Take Me with U”と、5曲のヒットが生まれ、アルバムは全世界で1,500万枚以上のセールスを記録。映画も好評でアカデミー賞まで獲りました（最優秀歌曲・編曲賞）。
これはイケると思ったのでしょう、86年に再び映画を作ります。『Under the Cherry Moon』ー40−50年代映画のキザでメロウで耽美な世界観にPrinceのエロス・猥褻を塗した自身監督作で、全編モノクロ。そのサントラとして制作したアルバム「Parade」とシングル”Kiss”はそこそこ売れましたが、映画興行的には大失敗し、ゴールデン・ラズベリー賞（通称「ラジー賞」。その年の最低映画大賞）まで獲得。それまでの蓄財が吹っ飛びます。
その後もアルバムやシングルがヒット→映像作品制作→大コケで散財→ポップなシングルで補填→アルバムそこそこ売れる→映像作品制作…というサイクルを繰り返します。

だって皆さんご存知ないでしょ？Princeの映画って。「Sign "☮︎" The Times」（1987）という超傑作アルバムに同名映像作品があるとか。前述『Purple Rain』の続編といわれた『Graffitti Bridge』（1990）とか。

“Sometimes it Snows in April”は、前述『Under the Cherry Moon』の主人公・Tracy（Prince）のことを歌った、元々はかなりフォーキーな曲。歌詞にありますが、彼は死んでしまいます。だからPrinceの訃報に触れた時、TracyとPrinceが完全に重なってしまい、私は一時期この曲が聴けなかった。

「4月に雪が降ることだってある」けど、それはあなたがいないからですヨ、Prince。「気が滅入ることもある」けど、「人生って永遠なんだと願いたくなる」のもまた、あなたの音楽があったからですヨ、Prince。

今日は4月21日。哀悼の意を捧ぐ。
