【英検1級英作文】宇宙開発はコストに見合うか？ / Is space exploration worth the cost?

宇宙開発はコストに見合うか？ / Is space exploration worth the cost?

 I believe that space exploration is worth the coast. I have three reasons to back up my opinion.

　私は宇宙開発はコストに見合うものと考えています。それには私の意見をサポートする三つの理由があります。

 Firstly, these days, a lot of natural resources face shortage. for example, we don't know how much oil remains in our Earth. Some scientists say that we will use up all of our oil in less than one hundred years. Moreover, other scientists say the depletion of helium will occur in the near future. If we explored space, we may discover some natural resources.

　まず始めに、今日、多くの自然資源が不足しています。私たちはどれぐらいの石油がこの地球に残されているのか知りません。科学者たちが言うには、約100年以内に私たちは石油を使い切るだろうとのことです。さらに、他の科学者たちによるとヘリウムガスの枯渇が近い未来に起きるだろうということです。もし私たちが宇宙開発をしたら、私たちは自然資源を発見できるかもしれません。

 Secondly, we have to monitor our Earth from space. Our Earth is always exposed to some dangers. We have to study how much the ozone hole is spreading, and how eroded the Amazon rainforest is, by satellites or a space station. Especially, it is important to observe big meteors, which caused the great extinction in the Jurassic period.

　次に、私たちは宇宙から地球を監視する必要があります。私たちの地球は常に何らかの脅威にさらされています。私たちはオゾンホールがどれぐらい広がっているのか、アマゾンの熱帯雨林がどれぐらい侵食されているのか、衛星や宇宙ステーションを使って研究する必要があります。特に恐竜時代に大絶滅を引き起こしたような巨大隕石の監視は重要です。

 Finally, if we journeyed through space, we might find living organisms. Some of these might be edible and our shortage of food might be solved. Moreover, today, we have a lot of problems such as conflict, poverty and discrimination. There is a possibility that we could meet intelligent beings in space and their superior intelligence might help us solve these problems.

　最後に、もし私たちが宇宙を旅したら、私たちは生物を発見できるかもしれません。場合によってはそれらは食べることができ、私たちの食糧不足を解決してくれるかもしれません。さらに言えば、今日私たちは紛争、貧困そして差別など多くの問題を抱えています。もしかしたら宇宙で知的生命体と出会い、彼らの優れた知性によりそれらの問題が解決されるかもしれません。

 In actually, space exploration costs so much. However, it may contribute to our planet by providing resources, living organisms, and allowing us to observe Earth. In the long run, I believe the money and effort spent on space exploration will pay off.

　実際のところ、宇宙開発には多大なお金がかかります。しかしながら、宇宙開発は、資源、生物、地球の観察により、私たちの地球に貢献をしてくれます。将来、宇宙開発は私たちの投資と努力を相殺してくれるでしょう。
