英詩のマガジンの本配信、今月3本目です。歌われる詩の2回めです。今回はボブ・ディランのアルバム 'Blood on the Tracks' (1975年、下) に収められた 'Simple Twist of Fate' (「運命のひとひねり」)です。

録音は1974年9月19日 (A & R Recording (Studio A), New York)。

ライヴでは、アルバムの曲順 (トラック1 と2) のように、'Tangled Up in Blue' とペアで演奏されることが多い歌です。

まとめ

ボブ・ディランの 'Simple Twist of Fate' は、かつての恋人 Suze Rotolo の回想に、別の女性との一夜かぎりの関係を重ね合わせた歌と一般にとられている。それ以外に、宗教的な読みを試みる解釈もある。どちらの解釈も、複数の時間を並置した歌とみる点では共通する。
