忘れもしません、親戚の家にお歳暮を届けに行った時のことでした、
「まあ、どうぞ」
と言われた言葉に乗せられて
上がり込んで１２時まで
大酒を飲ませていただきました。
その時、テーブルの上に
”１０年日記”なるものを
見つけて
「これなんですか」
「いや、女房が通販で買ったんで」
「へー、いくらです」
「１００００円近くするよ」
私は１万円と聞いて一瞬びっくりしたのですが
もし、本当に１０年書きつづけたら
１万円も安いものです。
帰り際に、奥さんに聞いて見ると
「元旦まで待てなくて、もう、チョコチョコ
書きこんでいます」
この奥さんは、小学生から
ずっと毎日日記を書いている人で
おそらく、この十年日記も
最後の１ページまで書きこんでしまうでしょう。
もし、一日３行でも１０年書きつづけたら
小説が何冊もできてしまいます。
「小説でも書いたら、どうですか」
なんて、今度、正月にでも話してみようと
思っています。ひょっとして、大作家が生まれるかもしれません。
　「一年の計は元旦にあり」そんな言葉を
聞いたことがあります。この言葉から
来るのかもしれませんが……・。
何か習慣的なことを
元旦に始めようと考えている人が多いですね。
でも、現実は多くの人が挫折しています。
私も何度も挫折しました。
ちょっと振りかえってみれば、
元旦は、まず忙しい。
誘惑が多い（お酒、付き合い、遊び
面白いテレビも…）
そして、寒い（熊ではありませんが
冬眠したくもなります）
他にも、いろいろ原因があると思いますが
とにかく何かを続けるには、
勢いがなくては難しいです。
飛行機が長い滑走路を助走してから
飛び立つように
元旦から何かを始めようと予定されている方は、
今日から、いや今から始めることをお勧めします。
　
　
★　もう一度ゼロから
　
あんまり相撲は好きではないけれど
優勝力士に驚いたことがあります。もうずっと昔です。
優勝したのは、当時横綱だった貴乃花でも同じく横綱だった兄の若乃花でもなく、大関の誰かでも
なかったのです。相撲というのはほとんど横綱と大関が優勝しますからね。
その時、優勝したのは琴錦というベテラン
前頭１２枚目の力士でした。横綱までの間に序列で30人ぐらいいますよね。
この人、何年か前まで
大関候補とか言われましたけれど
結局、チャンスを逃してばかりで
いつのまにか忘れられて幕尻
まで落ちていたのです。12枚目がその下は十両ですので幕尻というのです。
一回だけど、７年前には優勝したそうです。その時は強くて大関候補とも呼ばれたんですけどね。それがもう体力も衰えてしまって、
本人はあと一場所やって辞めるつもりだったそうです。
親方や周りの人にも
「辞める辞める」と言っていたそうです。
言い出したら聞かない性格で
周りも一応、口では止めていたそうですが、
きっと諦めていたでしょう。
有終の美を飾るつもりで
全盛期を思い出して
どうせ辞めるんだから…
結果なんか考えず初心に返って
自分の相撲を取ろう！と頑張ったら優勝。
たぶん、琴錦の優勝を聞いて
元気になった人が多いと思います。
今、世の中見回しても
かつては期待されたり脚光を浴びたけど
今は窓際って人かなり多いですね。
人だけではなく、もう見回せば
あれもこれもです。
どれも症状は同じですが、
あっちをペッタンこっちをペッタン
つぎはぎばっかりしています。
直そう直そうとするから
かえっておかしくなるんです。
ゼロからやり直したほうがいいです。
琴錦の優勝は、いいこと教えてくれました。（1998/11/24）

ライブの感動は行った人にしか、分かりません。
あるロックバンドのコンサート行った時の話です。
派手なアクションに
派手なミュージック
メイクも奇抜で本当の顔が
分からないくらいです。
でも、良い曲を歌っているので
新曲ごとにカラオケでも歌えるようになるほどのファンになりました。
１０代の女性ファンの
歓声をバックに
ちょっと違和感を感じながらも
最後まで結構楽しみました。
いっしょに来た友達と
「やっぱり、家で聴くよりよりずっといいなあ」
言いながらステージに背を向けた時、
ほんの数分前まで乱暴な言葉で観衆を引っ張っていた
リーダーの言葉が、
妙に丁寧な言葉が印象に残りました。
「ありがとう。
