So... Mindfulness makes us smarter?

I just wrote previous blog that “Just for now, how mindfulness meditation be surely useful capability?”
Do you remember what was the results they got?

* For now, it is effective for anxiety and depression moderately
* However, it is not sure if it affects to become smarter or you will get attentiveness from it yet

To be honest, there was bad research designs for that so even the researcher could not say it is effective or not clearly.

So here is a new article <Can be smart by mindfulness meditation?> showing up for us and let’s share with you!

They researched correlation between mindfulness and brain function


This comes from The Monash University’s research. They picked up and summarized past MBSR and MBCT datas. MBSR is very famous method come from John Kabat-Zinn and his book, named “Full Catastrophe Living”, and MBCT is “Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy”



Both repeated meditation and cognitive therapy for 8 to 12 weeks, see a patients learning how to deal with controlling against their stress and their bias. It’s a common method of mindfulness recently.

They picked up 18 studies healthy 11 men were chosen but there are many datas that are hard to lump together that is why they didn’t do meta-analysis. It means they just reviewed each of their statistical difference of studies so let’s say it is bit low reliability.

Can be useful for meta-cognition and working-memory

Easy summary for them heresy first↓
* Mindfulness could not improve attentiveness
* Executive function also could not be improved

* What does Executive function mean? : It is surely Essential system to our brain where makes plans and goals and accomplish them firmly. But this time, mindfulness didn’t work well for both. It’s disappointment.

On the other hand, there is a possibility to work out well were these↓
* Meta-cognition
* Flexibility for cognition
* Working-memory

Take them easy because the research says it’s a possibility to improve for 8 weeks mindfulness meditation.

So here’s a summary for this time...
At this point, this is how mindfulness meditation works on to... I know it does not sound crystal clear however, there is some other article says even you think it works on me very well(like cheating yourself as “placebo effect”) is actually improve your health issue so can be worth trying. Well, as I am an anxiety personnel so I will continue to do it anyway. Bye for now then.
