こんばんは。はらメディカルクリニック院⻑の宮﨑です。不妊治療の専⾨医 です。
Hello. I'm Dr. Miyazaki, the director of Hara Medical Clinic. My specialty is infertility treatment.

私は、2018年までシカゴのノースウェスタン⼤学医学部産婦⼈科に海外留学 をしていました。帰国した後もその繋がりから⽇本に住んでいるアメリカ⼈ から不妊治療に関する相談や情報提供を求められることがあります。その際 に彼らが困っているのは、「英語が通じる医療機関を探すことが⼤変」とい うことでした。不妊治療は⽬に⾒えている病態を治すというものではなく、 相談しながら進める部分が多いです。⺟国語で安⼼して治療を受けたい気持 ちはよくわかります。
Until 2018, I was studying abroad at Northwestern University School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, in Chicago. Americans living in Japan may ask for consultation and information on fertility treatment. When they do, what they have the most trouble with is that it can be difficult to find a medical institution that could speak English. Infertility treatment does not cure visible conditions, but there are many issues that can be addressed with consultation. I understand the feeling of wanting to receive treatment with peace of mind in my native language.

そんな思いから、この度、勇気を出して、⽇本語を苦⼿とする英語圏の患者 様をお迎えするための⼀歩を踏み出します。これは私たちチームにとって⼤ きな挑戦です。
With that in mind, we are taking steps toward welcoming English-speaking patients who do not speak Japanese. This is a big challenge for our team.

① 英語でお話しいただける電話回線を追加しました
当院の電話番号03-3356-4211にお電話をいただくと、⽇本語の⽅は１を。英 語の⽅は２を。というガイダンスが流れます。
We have added a phone line for English Speakers
If you call our clinic's phone number at 03-3356-4211, guidance will be played directing you to press 1 for Japanese, and 2 for English.

②英語回線の電話は受付スタッフに繋がります。受付スタッフの2割は患者 様とお話しするのに⼗分な英語⼒があります。さらに２割のスタッフは簡単 な予約程度であれば対応できます。残りのスタッフは昨年の9⽉から週１回 英語のレッスンをしていますのでその努⼒の成果がでてくれるのではないかと祈っています。彼らが得意とする英語は、「I'll transfer you to the person who cas speak English.」
English line phones will connect to the reception staff. 20% of the reception staff have sufficient English ability to talk to patients. An additional 20% of the staff can handle simple reservations. The rest of the staff have been taking English lessons once a week since September of last year, and I am sure their efforts will soon show. Everyone will at least be able to say "I'll transfer you to the person who can speak English."

③私は英語で診察するのに問題はありません。胚培養⼠は説明に必要なレベ ルの英語⼒はありますのでご安⼼ください。看護師は英語を話せるスタッフ がおりませんので英訳翻訳機を使わせていただきます。
Having lived in the US for a few years, I have no problems conducting examinations in English. Also, you can be assured that our embryologists have a sufficient level of English skill for explanation. However, most of the nursing staff does not yet have a high level of English speaking skill, so they will use an English translation machine.

英語のウェブサイトは3⽉にできあがります。⼤量の資料や同意書類は毎⽇ スタッフと⼿分けして翻訳を進めています。しばらくは、翻訳されていない 資料が多いと思います。お許しください。
The English version of our website will be completed in March. Meanwhile, a large amount of materials and consent documents are being translated every day by our staff. Even so, there will be many untranslated materials for a while; please bear with us in this ongoing effort to better serve our international clientele.

Foreigners living in Japan can also receive infertility treatment subsidies. Please contact the prefecture where you live.
