【通訳案内士】Coming-of-age day 成人の日

全国通訳案内士試験、二次試験の参考スピーチです。間違った文法、誤字等あるかもしれませんが、ご容赦ください。
先週の月曜日は「成人の日」でした。英語ではComing-of-age dayもしくはComing-of-Age dayと言います。このaとAは、強調するかしないかという違いだけで、両方とも正しいとのこと。ただし、語句間のハイフンは省略できないとのことです。（ネイティブ調べ）
この成人式の日には、式典のほかにも地域でさまざまなイベントが開かれると思います（京都の通し矢や地域によっては成人祝賀駅伝など…）。二次試験では地元のイベントについて話してみても、面白いと思います。

Coming-of-age day 成人の日

In Japan, the second Monday of January is a national holiday and it is designated as a coming-of-age day. This is for celebrating people who become 20 years old.
They can get much freedom compared to childhood period. For example, they have rights to drink alcohol and smoke. However, they will have much responsibility, too.
日本では1月の第二月曜日は成人の日とされていて、国民の休日です。二十歳になった新成人たちを祝うためにあります。
新成人たちは飲酒や喫煙が許される一方で、責任も増えます。

Each local government holds a coming-of-age ceremony. (Most Japanese schools start from April and end in March. Sometimes, people who are under 20 can attend this ceremony.)
Many gentleman attend this ceremony by wearing suits or kimono (and hakama which is a traditional pleated skirt.). And women wear kimono which are called “Furisode”. It is a colorful kimono and it has long arm sleeves.
The ceremony itself is a courteous atmosphere. After the ceremony, people go drinking or attend reunion parties.
各地方で成人式という式典が行われます。（日本の学校のほとんどが4月に始まり3月に終わる為、二十歳を迎える前の人もこの式典に参加できます。）
男性はスーツもしくは着物・袴を着て、女性は振袖と言われる着物を着てこの式典に参加します。振袖はカラフルな着物で、長い袖があります。
式典自体は礼儀正しいものですが、その後は飲みに行ったり、同窓会を開いたりします。

In Kyoto, there is a competition which are called “Tōshi-ya” at Sanjyūsanken-dō temple around this coming-of-age day. (Tōshi means long distance in this case, and ya means arrow.)
People, who become 20 years, shoot arrows at the target located 60m ahead. (And its diameter is around 1m.)

京都にある三十三間堂では、成人の日の前後に新成人が通し矢と呼ばれる競技をします。
60m先にある的を狙って、矢を放ちます（的の直径は1mぐらいです。）。
