今回は、英語が苦手な生徒を多く指導し、合格させてきた、あらたつ先生と、フィリピンで英語の先生をやっているミカ先生（ペンネーム）の「フィリピンの文化」についての雑談です。是非参考にして下さい。

□ フィリピン人女性に好きなタイプはない？

あらたつ先生: 今日は「フィリピンで人気のある男性」について話したいです。
Today, I would like to talk about “Men who are popular in the Philippines”.

ミカ先生: わかりました。「人気のある男性」とは俳優や政治家なんかのことですか？
Okay. So by popular men, do you mean actors, politicians, something like that?

あらたつ先生: 違います。女性が恋に落ちる男性のことです。笑　性格が良かったり、見た目や、顔、スタイルがよくて。ミカ先生の意見では、どんな感じの男性がフィリピンの女性は好きですか？
No, the men who girls fall in love with. Haha Because his character is good or his appearance, face, or shape is good.
In your opinion, what kind of men do women in the Philippines like?

ミカ先生: 何て答えればいいか本当にわからないです。他の女性が好きなタイプがわからないので。
I am not sure how to answer that, really. I mean, I do not know what other women like.

あらたつ先生: フィリピンの女性はこんな話をしないんですか？
Don’t you talk about the topic in the Philippines?

ミカ先生: あまりやりませんね（笑）みんな好みが違います。
Not exactly. Haha Everyone has their own taste.

あらたつ先生: そうなんですか？
Really? 

ミカ先生: 日本では全ての女性が同じタイプなんですか？
So all women there have the same type? 

あらたつ先生: 違います。このトピックが好きです。ミカ先生が言ったことはフィリピンの他の女性にもあてはまりますか？
No! Women like to talk about the topic. Is what you said also true of other women in the Philippines?

ミカ先生: 私たちはタイプについて話すけどそれぞれ違います。
We talk about our type, of course, but women have different types.

□ 彼氏にするならどんな人？

あらたつ先生: 彼氏にするならどんな性格が好きですか？
What character would you like if you get a boyfriend? 

ミカ先生: えーと、誠実な男性がいいです。見た目も重要です。もちろん魅力的であること。だけど、最重要ではないです。あらたつ先生はどうですか？理想な彼女はどんな感じですか？
Well, I would love to have a sincere boyfriend. Looks matter too. I mean they have to be appealing, of course. But it's not a priority. What about you? What would your ideal girlfriend be like? 

あらたつ先生: 僕の場合、お互いを尊敬できる女性ですかね。自分の弱いところと強いところを認めてもらいたいです。
In my case, it would be women who respect each other. I want her to admit both my weak and strong points. 

ミカ先生: なるほど。他に女性に何を求めますか？
I see. What else do you look for in a woman?

あらたつ先生: えーと、僕を他人と比較しない女性を求めます。
Hmmm I look for a woman who wouldn't compare me to others.

ミカ先生: 理解できます。みんな他人と比べられたくないです。
I understand. 🙂　No one wants to be compared to others.

あらたつ先生: それ。だけど、友達の多くが奥さんが他の家庭と比べることに文句を言っています（笑）○○の家はこれをやるのに、あなたは何でしないの！？的な。
Right. However, many of my friends complain about their wives comparing each other's families. Haha I mean like A’s husband do this but why do you not do it?

ミカ先生: 笑

□ フィリピン人女性は「背が高い男性が好き」は本当か？

あらたつ先生: あるサイトに書かれていたんですけど、
A website says 

ミカ先生: はい
Yes?

あらたつ先生: フィリピンの女性は背が高い人が好きなんですか？
Women in the Philippines like tall men. Is that right?

ミカ先生: さっきも言ったけどわからないです。それぞれ好みがあります。日本の女性全員が同じタイプですか？
Again, I couldn't vouch for everyone. Everyone has their own taste. Do all the women in Japan have the same type?

あらたつ先生: すみません、僕の質問が悪かったです。フィリピンの女性は背が高い男性を好む傾向がありますか？
My question is bad, sorry. Women in the Philippines tend to like tall men. Is that right?

ミカ先生: えーと、わかりません。
Uhm, I cannot answer that, really.

あらたつ先生: これならどうですか？フィリピンの女性は髪が短い男性を好みます。正しいですか？
How about this? Women in the Philippines tend to like men having short hair. Is that right?

ミカ先生: いえ、一般化する質問には答えることができません。みんなのタイプを聞いています。さっきの質問と一緒です。日本の全ての女性が短髪の男性を好きな傾向があるんですか？ないですよね。なぜならみんな違うから。それはレースではありません。好みです。それは好みについてです。同じレースであったとしても誰も他人の好みはわかりません。
Again, I couldn't answer questions that tend to generalize. You are asking for everyone else's type. It's just the same as your question earlier. Again, do all women in Japan tend to like having short hair? No, right. Because each one is different. It's not about the race. It's about preference. And no one can tell what others prefer even if they are the same race.

あらたつ先生: わかりました。ありがとうございます。ただ単にどんなタイプが好かれるのかな？と思っただけです。
I see! Thank you! I was just wondering what type tends to be liked there.

ミカ先生: えーと、日本にはステレオタイプがありますか？
Well, is there a stereotype in Japan? 

あらたつ先生: わかりません。そのウェブサイトがそう言っています。それでその内容があってるかを確認したいんです。
Yes and no. The  website just says so. That’s why I just want to confirm whether they are correct or not.

ミカ先生: あーわかりました。そのサイトは調査をやったと思います。それなら説明がつきます。私にその答えを聞くなら、私が調査をしてないので、わかりません。
Ah, okay. Well, the website could have done a poll. So that explains it. If you were to ask me, I couldn't answer that as I haven't done a poll myself.

あらたつ先生: オッケーです！ただミカ先生の印象を聞きたかったんです。
Okay! I just wanted to know your impression. Haha

ミカ先生: 多くのサイトは、アンケートをとっているのでそれらを一般化しています。えーと、もし私のタイプを聞くなら、本当に答えることができません（笑）ですが、ここの全ての女性について聞くわけではないなら、答えられます。
Most websites or whatever generalize these sorts of things because they conduct a survey or a poll. Well, if you want to know my type, I could definitely answer that! Hahaha But not if you ask me what all women like here. That would be impossible to answer.

あらたつ先生: そのサイトは正式な調査ではないです。データはないです。それで聞かせてもらってるんです。でもデータが全てというわけではありません。
The website is not a formal survey. There is no date. That’s why! And data is not everything. Haha

ミカ先生: そのサイトのリンクを送ってくれますか？
Can you send me the link of the website?

あらたつ先生: はい、だけど日本語で書かれています。
Yes, I can but it is written in Japanese 

ミカ先生: 大丈夫です。ちょっと待って。（サイトをみて）このブログはかなり偏っています。
That is alright. Just a second. I think the blog is quite biased.

あらたつ先生: それで、フィリピンのことをもっと知るために事実がどうか聞きたかったんです。
So, I wanted to check whether it is right or not to know the Philippines more

□ 今すぐやめなさい！それはフィリピン人の女性への偏見です！

ミカ先生: わかりました。そのサイトの言ってることに１つ言わせて下さい。「フィリピン人はとても匂いに敏感です」と言っていますが、正確ではありません。また、フィリピン人の肌は黒いと言ってますが、事実ではありません。タバコに関しても。簡単にまとめすぎています。全ての女性がタバコを嫌うわけではありません。吸う友達もいます（笑）そのサイトはひどい内容を指摘できますがもっと時間がかかります。
Okay, let me state one of the author's generalization. He/she said that "Filipinos are very sensitive to "smell"." This is not exactly the case. The author also said that most Pinoys are dark-skinned. Not true. The smoking thing also. Such a hasty generalization. Not all women hate smoking here. And most guys I know smoke. Haha I could point out a lot of hasty generalization from the blog but I guess I need more time for that. 

あらたつ先生: オッケイです！教えてくれてありがとうございます！
Okay! Thank you for teaching that!

ミカ先生: いえいえ！
No problem!

あらたつ先生: ネットには多くの嘘の情報があって日本の多くの人が信じてると思います。
There is a lot of false information on the internet and people in Japan might believe them.

ミカ先生: そうですね。ネットで読む全てのものが正確というわけではありません。
Yes, true. Not everything you read on the internet is accurate.
